Armstrong floor tile

October 7, 2005

I purchased Armstrong Granite Mills pattern, Item A4020, Lot A100A, 051A, Bar Code 042369337939 from the Home Depot on Hanley Road in Brentwood, Missouri. I had the Merx Flooring Company, 8744 Mackenzie, St. Louis, MO 63123 install the tile in my kitchen, dining room and two hallways, a total of 380 square feet. I have spoken with the Erin of the Armstrong Company, Andy Close, Manager of the Home Depot store, Delton, their expediter and Jeremy their Assistant Manager. My problem is that at every corner of a 12" x 12" tile, there is a hole the size of a pin head, because the tiles do not have crisp corners. In the future in mopping the floor, water will seep underneath and cause problems. When my contractor discussed this with someone in the flooring department, he was told that this was defective tile, they were selling it out and discontinuing the tile because they have had previous complaints about it. Also, he told the contractor to tell me not to mop the floor. I told Andy Close this and he denied it. He said it was top of the line tile and they were not selling it out or discontinuing the tile. The contractor also did not do a good job and I have complained to Merx Flooring. Also, the tile moves and separates and has to be picked up and properly replaced. No one is listening and every time I call the Home Depot store, I am told either Delton or the Manager, Andy Close, is in a meeting which takes up to 3 hours, or either they are not there that day. No one ever returns my phone calls. I have to keep calling back every day. This job was done on August 31, September 1 and 2, 2005. As of today, October 7, 2005, I am still waiting for anyone to return my phone calls. My house has been upset since the installation and since I work in the office of 72 attorneys, am ready to turn it over to one of them if I cannot get any results. The only solution would be to tear up the defective floor tile and complete replacement. I can be reached at 314-615-6053 from 8:30 to 5:00 weekdays or after 5:30 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays at 314-961-3055. Please let me hear from someone with 5 days.

We had several hundred square feet of Armstrong item #3530 installed and have had a warranty issue with only a few sections. However, Armstrong will NOT support the products they sell/sold. This product has a 10yr warranty, was purchased and installed one year ago yet is unavailable today.

Armstrongs solution is for me, the consumer, to pay to have the entire floor replaced with a "similar" product they will furnish.

The 10yr warranty is meaningless.
