Allied Interstate are Liars

October 6, 2005

Allied Interstate has called my home every single day for several weeks now, and continues to call as early as 8:00am to as late as 4:00pm, and leave voice messages all the time. Their message is always the same: “This message is left in accordance with federal and state statutes. Please call Allied Interstate at 1-866-252-5308. This is not a solicitation. In accordance to federal laws, no further information can be left on this message.” This company has broken New York State laws as my phone number is on a DO-NOT-CALL list set up by the governor of New York. When I finally got so annoyed at the messages, I called to find out what the Allied Interstate was on 10/6/05 at 12:35pm. The rude representative said “hello” and asked if I was calling from the phone in which I received my message. I told him, “no.” He proceeded to tell me that I must provide him my number before he can tell me anything. I asked what is Allied Interstate? His response was that it’s a “company.” He asked for the number of the phone where I received my messages, and I informed him that I would share with him my telephone number of the phone where I received my message if can he explain what kind of company Allied Interstate is. He started raising his voice about how if I don’t give him my phone number that he will not tell me anything. I told him that I’m not going to tell him my number if I don’t know what this company is about. He replied, “Then you know what? You will just keep getting the phone calls and the messages.” So, I told him that I will report him to the government if he continues. He replied, “Go ahead. You’re wasting my time.” We hung up. Then, I looked up the company on the internet, and it seems that Allied Interstate has been sued many times in class action law suits for inappropriately lying to the people about debt they’re collecting that do not exist. The thing is I have excellent credit background, and do not hold any debt other than a mortgage, which is paid timely. Therefore, there is no reason that they need to contact me about a debt. If they are calling me for any other reason, then their call is a solicitation, which they are not allowed to do if I am on the NYS Do-Not-Call list. According to an internet search, it appears that Allied Interstate has locations in multiple states. Here are a few: 340 Interstate North Pkwy, Atlanta, GA (an adjustment and collection services) 3010 LBJ Fwy Ste 1200, Dallas, TX 75234-2710. The number listed is 972-888-6038. 435 Ford Rd #800, Minneapolis, MN 55426-1096. The number listed is 763-546-6600. Anyone who has similar experiences should post your complaints, and report the matter to the Attorney General’s Office, Better Business Bureau and your local Consumer Advocate. Look in the Blue Pages that are behind the White Pages for the addresses and contact information. Sincerely, New York City Click this link to e-mail the message author: Email User

Sorry, hate to tell everybody who thinks that the Do Not Call List pertains to collection agencies that they're wrong but it's true. I've already looked into it. Whoever had my phone before me racked up some major debt and had about 6 different collection agencies calling my phone.

People need to start educating themselves on their rights as consumers. If you don't want collections agencies calling you tell them not to call that phone number again. Doesn't work? Get their address and write a cease and desist letter. Doesn't work? Tell them the next time they call you are going to write a letter to your attorney general as well as a letter to the FTC for violating the FDCPA. And do it. Look it up. Like I said our rights as consumers.

And saying that they like other companies can't call you if you're on the list is also wrong. There are exceptions to everything. That's why when you read the Do Not Call List website or the FTC website they are always specifically talking about telemarketers.

" No. Placing your number on the National Do Not Call Registry will stop most telemarketing calls, but not all. Because of limitations in the jurisdiction of the FTC and FCC, calls from or on behalf of political organizations, charities, and telephone surveyors would still be permitted, as would calls from companies with which you have an existing business relationship, or those to whom youve provided express agreement in writing to receive their calls. "

Allied Interstate has been calling my home for the last 2 months everyday. I don't have any debit, so I was not concerned. I called them and told them to take me off there calling list and they promptly did. I hope their automative machine stops calling. This is the number that kept popping up on my caller ID: 775-319-1507.

Thank you all for your post and information regarding this company. Maybe, all your post and letters to the better business bureau have made a difference or maybe I was just lucky.

Sincerely,

Washington DC

These so "companies" are simply vultures finding old debts that have been written off by the original company you owe or even settled and not yet removed from the books. They buy your debt for litterally pennies on the dollar and try to collect them.

Then this ass hole has the nerve to tell you to get a job and pay your debt. Well, I say to all of the collectors for companies such as these, "get a real fucking job ass hole". If you don't like that, get my info and look me up. I will explain to you very clearly what I'm talking about and comvince you to understand,,, the American way.

May 20, 2008

I recently started receiving phone called from Allied Interstate.

I received one last week while I was babysitting for a friend. The original call is a recording stating that you need to call them back (at 1-800-617-5065) in regards to a debt that is owed. When I received the second call yesterday, I called them back. I was very confused about what I owed. I'm very happily completely debt free so I had no idea what this was about.

The man I spoke to yesterday did not (and would not) tell me his name. At first he couldn't find my account and wasn't sure why I'd been contacted. Then after giving him my phone number 2 more times he found my account. I'm not sure if he knew my name or address until I gave it to him “for conformation” – I didn't really think about the fact that he might be fishing for information at first. He had such a think Indian accent that I could barely understand a word that was coming out of his mouth. He stated that I had a debt that was owed for a “book club” that I belonged to. I was confused because I've never belonged to a book club in my life. Finally he told me that the debt was owed to Easy to Make, Easy to Bake – which is a company that sends you sets of recipe cards.

The man was very pushy about the debt. He kept saying that it was only a small amount, only $28.42, and that I really should just pay it. He kept telling me that if I did not pay it it would show up on my credit report. I told him that I did not owe them anything and that the debt that he was talking about was taken care of over a year ago (April 2007). Finally after telling him about 20 times that I did not owe anything I said “okay, I'm going to go now” and his response was “maybe you should call the place where the debt originated.” I said “thank you, that was my plan” and he hung up on me.

I called Easy to Make, Easy to Bake and spoke to a very nice man there who cleared my debt (apparently it hadn't been taken care of like I though). What had happened was that I received recipe cards that I returned because I wasn't using the ones that I had and somehow it never showed up on my account that they'd be returned. I thought that they had cleared my debt back in April 2007 – I sent several messages through their email customer service. Anyway – he cleared my debt and took me out of collections.

Today I received another phone call from the recording. When I called them back I spoke to a woman named Olivia who also had a very thick Indian accent. I explained to her that I'd spoken to a man at Easy to Make, Easy to Bake and that he said that I had been removed from collections. I told her that I wanted them to stop calling me because I did not owe anything and there was no reason for them to be calling me. The woman was very rude. At one point she started yelling at me about how I just needed to pay the debt. I very calmly told her that I did no owe anything and that I hoped she had a nice day, then I hung up.

I called Easy to Make, Easy to Bake again today to confirm with them that I did not have a debt with them and the nice woman that I spoke to on the phone told me that my balance was zero. I asked if she knew how long I was going to be receiving collection phone calls and she put me on hold for a few minute. When she came back she told me that she would send me a letter stating that my balance was zero and that I should not be in collections anymore.

Then I called Allied Interstate again. The man who answered the phone (again wouldn't tell me a name) asked if I had just called. I said “yes, and you answered” and he said “no before, did you call?” and I said “yes, I spoke to someone about 10 minutes ago.” I told him that I wanted them to stop calling me because I'd confirmed or the second day in a row that I owed nothing to Easy to Make, Easy to Bake. He asked what I was talking about. I told him that I'd spoken to a man yesterday and a woman today that confirmed for me that I did not owe anything to them. He said “yes, you did speak to a man and a woman yesterday, they were from my company and they told you that you owe $28.42.” I told him that I had spoked to the people that he was talking about but that I had also spoken to people from the company that I “owe.” He basically called me a liar and told me that I could speak to the same people that I'd spoken to before because they were both sitting right next to him.... this is when I really started to wonder what was going on with this company. Does everyone who's taken a phone call from a certain person just gather together when that person calls again? It was crazy.

Finally after a few minutes of yelling at me and calling me a liar he put me on hold. Then he transferred me to someone in billing without even telling me what he was doing. This man gave me his name - Rafael Soul.

(I'm not trying to sound racist of anything because I'm totally not at all, but all of these names sound very fake – especially for people with such think Indian accents)

This man again tried to get me to just pay the “very small debt of $28.42” and I again stated that I did not owe the money and that I was not going to pay them. At this point I was really more scared to pay them then anything – I was worried about what might actually get charged to my credit card. Rafael told me that if I've paid the debt that I must have some kind of proof that the debt had been paid and if I did have proof that I needed to send it to them. I told him that I didn't have proof of paying the debt because the debt was never actually owed. Then I told him that I was being sent a letter from Easy to Make, Easy to Bake stating that I owed nothing and that I had been removed from collections. He told me that I needed to send him this letter when I got it.

Then I had to get the address for Allied Interstate. I asked him several times for the address and he said that I just needed to send the letter. Finally I said “Look, I'll send you the letter if you give me the address. I do not have the address to send you anything. I've never received anything in the mail from Allied Interstate stating that I've got any kind of debt and there is no way that I can send anything without an address. Finally he gave me the address:

Allied Interstate

P.O. Box 361445

Columbus, OH 43236

After this he told me that he would close my account but that I would need to him the letter or proof of payment. After this I told him that they should probably work on their customer service. He told me that they weren't customer service. I told him that I understood that they weren't the “customer service department” but all companies have a level of customer service to them. I told him that I understood that it was probably hard to people people to pay money that's due – especially when he's years old – but that yelling and people on the phone and telling them that they are liars is not at all a way to get them to pay anything.

He hung up on me.

I really hope that the phone calls stop!

This company keeps calling me to "collect a debt" they day my brother owes. He does not live here and has no telephone number to be reached at. I am afraid to answer the phone and try to tell them this as I was harrassed by another company last year until I sent a cease and desist letter. That was money out of my pocket for something that is not my debt. My credit history is excellent and I dont need collectors calling me at all hours.

I work for allied interstate..we follow american guidelines and the fdcpa to a T all of our calls are monitored by the company we collect for. If you call in and we request the phone number its so we can remove it if there are no accounts pertaining to it. As an agent i am doing the job i am paid for. We dont intend to harrass anyone we run on an automatic dialer and dont control as agents who is called. If you request for your number to be removed we will remove it no problem. PAY YOUR GODDAMN CREDIT CARDS AND WE WONT CALL YOU. People pay your 15 monthly minimum..get off your ass and get a job..or dont answer the damn phone.

This bunch of idiots at Allied Interstate calls us at least 6 times a day between 8am-9pm , and as early as 8 am on weekends..and has been doing so for about 3 weeks! The worst part of it is, they aren't even calling for US!! They are calling for someone who lived here (a rental) EIGHT YEARS AGO! We have repeatedly told them that this person doesn't live here & we do not have any contact information for them. They've been told this as many as 6 times in a single day. At this point we are so frustrated we are having the house phone cancelled (in the landlords name) & are swapping personal cell phones to get peace restored. I can see going after a person who owes money, but not an innocent person who happens to have their debtors former phone number!

I love these collection types who comment here wanting us to feel sorry for them because they have to deal with "dead beats" & cursing people. Well, maybe if you used REASONABLE collection tactics ,like calling once per day & sending written bills, you might get somewhere. But, let me tell ya, MY heart isn't bleeding for you. YOU chose that heartless profession, so you can suck it up. Yeah, the people are wrong for not paying, but I doubt MOST people set out to buy things & not pay. Life isn't always neat & orderly. Things happen. You calling & harrassing them constantly doesn't get you paid any quicker.

I have also received a few calls from Allied but the number is registered in Nevada 775-319-1506. I do not have any outstanding debt except student loans that won't be due until December 2008. I'm not answering my phone when they call and since my brother is an attorney I dare them to start crap with me.

They have now called me two days in a row. I have excellent credit and am never late on any payments. In fact, I am early if anything. Besides my mortgage, I owe on one credit card and a boat payment to Bank of the West. When you call the number they leave 866-252-5308 it says they are experiencing technical difficulties...call back later. I live in Florida and am also registered on the Federal Do-Not-Call-List.

the best way to get back at these companys is to use your FAX to call there toll free number this will tie up there number 24/7 because a FAx needs a fax tone to complete the call so it keeps calling forever.

What you say is true. A Debt Collection Company has to deal with deadbeats & Cursing Deadbeats at that. Aint easy for a Bill Collecter Buddy. Oh and just for the record, if they ask you what number you received the message at, You should give it to them so that they can pull up info. If you dont give it to them, how do u expect em to tell you anything at all. They have millions of accounts. and they cant search without info.

I called yesterday because I know i have some debt. i tried to see if i could pay online and all i saw was the complaints on google. its amazing. i called the number and the guy on the other side said HELLO. and i said excuse me? I work in customer service in a call center too and you do NOT answer a phone like that, then hung up. needless to say, i am not paying until i get a hold of the company that put me to collections to find out if it is legit. and even then I will get a prepaid debit card that way they dont have my credit card number.

as for the person saying being rude comes with the territory, I work at a call center for MEDICARE, with members pissed off allll day long. I do not ONCE lose my tempter with them. just because you are having a bad day does not give you the right to be that way with everyone else. its call checking your attitude at the door. if you don't like your job, get a new one.

I would like to address use of the words "dead beats". All who are in debt are not dead beats. I have only medical debt and it is because I have a chronically ill child for whom medical care is both necessary and costly. A person cannot pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to fifty different medical facilities inside of 30 days as expected before it is sent to collections. So, no.....nobody has to right to be rude without knowing ones circumstances and if seeking medical care for a child while knowing I cannot afford it makes me a dead beat, then so be it! Collection agencies can call me 100 times a day and I assure you it will not make my income shoot up enough to write a check. I will not deny my child medical care for fear that some idiot will consider me a dead beat. I didn't go buy a car and refuse to pay, I saved my child's life and will continue to do so.

The reason they cannot tell you what type of Company they are is because it is illegal under the FDCPA to disclose information that they are a collection agency. If a reference on your application is called and they call back Allied and ask what type of company they are and they say collections, your reference now knows you are in debt and Allied violated the FDCPA, if your reference was to ask the name of the company they must give it to them and you the "debtor" Until they confirm they have you on the phone, they cannot disclose information. They may have been rude, but its not customer service, its collections (big difference)!!!! By the information you provided, they did nothing wrong or illegal, if they were rude, well it comes with the territory. Remember they deal with dead beats and people cursing them out all day. There job is to recover money owed to their clients.
