I was a customer of Ontario Savings Office for over 10years. Recently this office became Desjardin Credit Union. I banked and used their service, having a savings account, US account and a saftey deposit box without any problems for over 10 years. I had no complaints, I used my accounts infrequently and went in a few times a year to put things into my safety deposit box or withdraw money. I closed my savings account in the Spring, they were starting to put in a monthly charge.
This week, I got a call from the Desjardin Credit Union telling me that I could no longer have a safety deposit box unless I go in immediately and open a regular account, and I had to pay my membership fee of $5.00. I explained that I had already paid the fee, and was told they had no record of it. I had to go in and correct this. The bank employee also insinuated that I was trying to hide from paying my fees because my telephone number was listed in my maiden name. I felt that was really rude and none of her business.
I went in to close up everything, my US account which was 5 figures, and my safety deposit box. AT the time of closing my account, they realized I had paid my membership fee and I had an account with the branch, but it was in US funds. They had to refund me my membership fee along with the balance of my account. Not once did they apologize for their error. I am glad to have moved my money from that institution. Think twice before signing on as a member.
