National Fitness Finacial Services

October 6, 2005

My daughter joined a gym owned by this company. When she was unable to secure a job after completing college, she returned home 55 miles from the gym. The people at the gym said she could cancel her membership if she moved 20 miles away and could present a piece of mail with her new address. They said there would be no problem. Wrong! When she called the national headquarters, she was informed that she needed to send a credit card statement with the new address. A change of address usually takes several months, but an Old Navy bill arrived sooner. That was sent, but was unacceptable because that was a store credit card. Next, the company said a copy of proof of health insurance at the new address would count. That was sent, but they wanted the policy. Who in their right mind is going to send the policy which is generic? Finally, after two months, the VISA bill arrived (by the way, she had to charge something in order to get a bill sent). Although they received that in mid-September, they still withdrew October's payment from her account. When I called once more, they said her membership was cancelled effective October 10. I asked if she would get her money back. NO! They needed a thirty day notice! What the heck do they think they had been getting since July 28, 2005! Will I go to an attorney? No. I just want others to be warned about signing any contract with a gym that has National Fitness Financial Services any where in its contract. Unless you plan to stay in one location for the duration of the contract, do not join. Besides, walking is one of the best exercises you can do.
