This is a coffee maker by Hamilton Beach that uses a plastic receptacle instead of a glass carafe. The problem is that the plastic makes the coffee taste and smell toxic from the chemicals leaching into the coffee from the plastic. I have tried changing brands of coffee and using purified water to no avail. This machine makes the worst tasting brew in the world. I am worried about health issues from exposure to the chemicals this machines puts into the coffee. I understand that the State of California where I reside is or has banned the use of some plastics for use in contact with consumables. I am wondering if there have been any consumer safety alerts with regard to this product.
