Diners Club

October 27, 2005

I applied for and received my Diner’s Club card in 1998. After using it for several trips over the years I had accumulated quite a number of Award points, I believe in the neighborhood of 65,000. In July 2005, I suddenly had a purchase denied by Diner’s Club and soon after received a letter stating my account had been closed. When I called and asked why, I was told simply “Someone must have seen something on your credit report they didn’t like. I wrote an email through there website complaining and asking how to redeem my points. I also made at least 2 other phone calls but never got through to anyone that could help. Today (October 26, 2005) I finally was transferred to a supervisor who informed me that after 30 days from the time the account is closed, the points are taken away. They had no record of my phone calls or email and that the only way I could get the points back was to have the card reinstated. When I said it wouldn’t be very good publicity for Diner’s Club, she glibly said it was in the terms of agreement and its not there fault if you don’t read them or refresh yourself with them periodically. They (Diner’s Club) can not force the customer to read it. My treatment by Diner’s Club has been horrendous as has their handling of the situation. I would not recommend their card to anyone.
