My name is Xenia and I am an Executive Coordinator for Tranxend Design. I am writing in regards to filing a complaint against Food 4 Less at 7730 Hazard Center Drive in San Diego, CA 92108. I always shop at Food 4 Less due to the fact that it is conveniently close to where I live. My sister, my nephew, and I went to go to Food 4 Less to pick up some groceries so we can cook a nice meal. When we were ready to purchase our items at that Food 4 Less we went to cashier number 5 at around 7:30 P.M. on November 8, 2005. My sister looks of African American descent and the cashier immediately looked at my sister and claimed, "Oh you have EBT, the EBT system is down." EBT I believe is welfare but I felt offended of this accusation because my sister looks a certain way she immediately accused her of being on welfare. Furthermore, another employee, a male of Hispanic descent, has dared to tell us, "People like you is the reason why, I have a lot of carts to put back the food, since you do not listen." Obviously there was a sign outside stating that they are not accepting EBT cards but then again we ignored that sign because we are regular paying customers that have no means of paying with welfare. I mean, there is nothing wrong with being on welfare but she embarrassed my sister and myself. I had cash in hand to pay for these items but the cashier didn't even give us a chance to see what type of payment we are making. Employees that place stereotypical judgments against people who look a certain way, is not only racist but crude. Imagine if people with EBT would have felt if they were in our position, they would be offended more. I am disgraced by the mere thought that a corporation like Food 4 Less would have employees that would stand by ethical standards. I do hope that the employees at Food 4 Less will stop harassing people with accusations because it does hurt feelings and contradicts how I use to view this company.
