http://www.complaints.com/directory/2005/november/7/8.htm February 9, 2006 We are grateful to have the opportunity to reply to the complaint posted on this website concerning our business. We just became aware of this complaint board or we would have taken steps earlier to respond. It is obvious that when a customer is upset with us enough to take the time to write such detailed letter that our relationship with them is severely damaged. We will not get into a detailed tit-for-tat explanation on this website of what happened with this particular customer other than to say we have fulfilled all our obligations to him and he is now living in a beautiful Preferred home. We are truly sorry that he feels his experience with us was not satisfactory as it is never our intention to create an unhappy customer. New Mexico is a small market, and our reputation in this community is extremely important to us. Preferred Building Systems has been in business for over twenty years, and has built over 1300 homes, offices, and government buildings. We realize that we will occasionally have the rare customer who, for whatever reason, is unhappy with our service. We always strive to provide the best product and service that we possibly can, and can promise no better than that. All of us at Preferred Building Systems welcome any inquiries into the quality of our service or reputation. At the New Mexico Better Business Bureau website anyone can view a report on our company. We are proud to boast a AAA rating, the highest awarded by the BBB. Or better yet, ask any of our satisfied customers. Thank You, Craig McKinley Sales Manager Preferred Buliding Systems, Inc. www.preferredbuildingsystems.com
November 7, 2005 - Consumer Message:
Okay here goes.
I purchased a $193,660.10 house from Preferred Building Systems on April 17, 2005. They told me construction would be between 60-75 days. I was told by Mr. Robert Cox that my home would ship on August 17, 2005. I was allowed to stop in at any time to inspect the quality. I found many things that were poor quality and I was told that it didn't matter what I thought but that the State of New Mexico and Preferred determined quality. I fought this and had them finally fix a few of those items. I can't refuse payment or they will stop construction totally. They pushed back the delivery date until September 19, 2005. When they called to give me this date they said it might be later if the cement shortage hit NM. I made arrangements with a local vendor to have cement available whenever Preferred needed it. I called Preferred and informed them of this arrangement. Instead of calling my vendor they called another one and were placed on a waiting list. When they informed me I called my vendor and made arrangements to get the cement to the house. This resulted in Preferred delaying the house until October 3rd. We had 4 days of rain making it too muddy to deliver my house at that point. I received the house on October 11, 2005. Since that date the house has basically sat without much being done to it. The weather is getting bad and they're sitting and waiting for heaven knows what to finish it. They have already collected $37,000 for a two stall garage and stucco that they haven't started working on. I'm paying interest on these funds which they have no right too. They also refuse to give me a key to the home that I basically own in total. The house sits on my property and I've already paid them over $187,000 and they haven't finished the foundation, started the garage, or done the carpeting and finishing work inside. I owe less than $6,000. The garage alone is over $22,000.
I'm filing a complaint with the State of New Mexico.
I've never had such a POOR working relationship with anyone and the customer service STINKS.
