My wife and I purchased a Simmons Beautyrest Exceptional Inverness king size mattress from the Miller Furniture Barn in Mt. Jackson, PA in September 2005. Our selection was based on the model in the dealer showroom. The mattress we received had a significantly different feel compared to the model in the showroom. The pillow top on our new mattress was not nearly as plush as the one we tried out in the showroom. My wife has been particularly affected with lower back and leg pain. After allowing a couple of weeks of break-in time, no improvement occurred, so the dealer was contacted. The dealer was unresponsive, so the dealer's Simmons representative was contacted several weeks later. The Simmons rep sent a warranty contractor to inspect the bed. The warranty contractor concluded "No defects found - This is a comfort issue".
My complaint is that Simmons sells a product promoted as having exceptional comfort, but makes no provision for dealers to address comfort issues. I attempted to have the Simmons rep compare the showroom mattress with the mattress I received, but the warranty contractor sent to inspect the mattress I received was not instructed to examine it. I don't know if Simmons provides a different mattress to dealers for their showrooms compared to the ones delivered to customers. In any event, I was never offered a solution to my problem. The simple fact is that Simmons WILL NOT address comfort issues.
Simmons unspoken position was that a "difference" in individual mattress construction, short of the protruding coils and deep sags covered under the warranty, is an issue of COMFORT, WHICH, CONTRARY TO THEIR SELF-PROMOTION, IS NOT THEIR CONCERN.
Be warned when you consider purchasing a Simmons mattress. If you don't like the mattress you receive, too bad, it's yours.
