Andersen Renewal Windows / replacement windows Andersen Renewal Windows / replacement windows November 29, 2005 Andersen Renewal Windows 33366 Woodward Avenue, Birmingham, Michigan Yes, Renewal Windows can be great, but are not perfect. For instance, when I had some double hung windows replaced with the "insert" method versus the "full replacment" method, the lower sash did not seat properly on the window sill, allowing air to blow in underneath. When the replacment sill sits on top of the pre-existing sill, the surface is so high, that the lower edge of the bottom sash barely clears the inside sill. The remedy for this was to put quarter round (shoe molding) on the inside of the window sill to provide a visual barrier to this gap (between the lower edge of the window and where it should be seated). This looks bad, and doesn't resolve the air moving under the window. The response of the repairman was "That's remodeling!" There was no fix for the problem. I don't dislike the windows, but installation is the key to success. Nice product with a possible engineering flaw, nice salesman, mediocre installation.
