Computer fiasco
This happened last year, but I was never aware that there was a site available to voice one's opinion or bring to light some of the unacceptable practices of certain businesses. If I had known, I would have posted this long ago.
I had purchased a custom made computer from above company and wrote on the ORIGINAL WORK ORDER all the components the computer was to have. (Because of the computer work I do, I am very specific about the parts I need.) In a few days, I picked up the system, taking for granted it was built to specs, and went home.
After setting up the system, I discovered that the motherboard was not what I had ordered, the processor was not the speed I had requested and there were no extra fans as I had ordered. So I returned it the next day and told them to replace it. (The motherboard was a specific type I required for the processor I had asked for. The extra fans were crucial to keep such a system optimally cool.)
They told me I had to pay an extra charge for that type of motherboard and that I should have specified it in the first place. When I had reminded them that I was the one who wrote up the work order, they "conveniently" discovered that it was misplaced, but I stood my ground and they quickly complied. Obviously, there would be no additional charges. Afterwards, I took my "fixed" unit home.
After setting it up again, I discovered that my DVD burner was only a CD burner, so I returned it again. They tried telling me that it was a DVD burner, but it had CD-RW embossed right on it and in the computer itself recognized it as such. Neither could they get a DVD to play on it. I told them they should learn the difference. The tech then told me that he did not like to be referred to as incompetent, of which I replied that if they had built it properly the first time, I would not have insinuated that. As well, there were no apologies.
The third time, I checked and rechecked the system and finally took it home. The only good thing was that they gave me a better case with the system than what I had ordered. A "sorry we got caught" gift, I imagine.
Since then, not only have I not shopped there, but all my referrals have been to other companies and in my line of work I have MANY clients and customers I can pass on referrals to. Several others have told me their "opinion" of the above company. None were favorable.
When a computer company tries to rip off one of their customers, it's never a smart idea to try it on someone who can build computers. Their mistake.
