I have 2 warranty issues that Grubbs Nissan in Hurst TX and Nissan USA are refusing to address under warranty: 1) The outside temp gauge is off by 7-10 degrees. Grubbs/ Nissan USA refused to repair the temp gauge, at first saying they all vary, then saying a 7-10 degree difference is within specs. I pushed to see what the specs are for the gauge, and I was told then, that the gauge was exactly the same as the outside temp. Not true, but a pretty minor problem compared to the other warranty issue. Bottom line: it worked when I bought it and Nissan refuses to repair under the warranty. 2) A few time in the first year of the car the "service engine soon" light came on. The owners manual said, basically to loosen/ tighten the gas cap but not to worry unless it continues to stay on. Well, this time I was on a 1400 mile drive across the California/ Arizona desert and the light comes on and stays on. The possibility of being stranded in the desert was quite stressful to say the least. I had this problem with my 1994 Altima. They replaced the switch, no problem with the vehicle, just a faulty switch/ sensor.
However, this time, while still under warranty, I made an appointment to address this matter. They turned the gas cap, said it was loose and must be the cause of the problem. If that is the only problem, then that is fantastic as long as it doesn't happen again after my warranty expires. However, the cap is ALWAYS loose. I can turn the thing 50 revolutions and it still feels loose so I asked if they could replace the cap under my warranty and they refuse to do that without running a $100+ diagnostic test which I may be liable for. This time, they refused to even look at the cap.
When I complained to the Grubbs Nissan management, I was told that Grubbs does not work for Nissan and I need to take up the matter with Nissan. After more run around, I spoke to Nissan USA. I have inquired as to why I would have the burden of proof when the car is under warranty. She says someone has to pay to see if it is a Nissan issue. I asked for a list of which instances I will be held liable. They could not/ would not provide any information. Bottom Line: If I want to see if its a warranty issue, I must be willing to pay the $100+ diagnostic fee. It appears I will have to resort to spreading the word.
