Revlon ad must go away!

I just witnessed the most chauvinistic act of advertisement I have ever experienced. While attempting to relax on this Memorial Day evening, a Mitchum ad came on television. The caption was "If your only real fear is commitment, then you're a Mitchum man." The background image was that of an engagement ring being placed on a woman's finger. I found this advertisement grossly offensive.

My husband is a soldier enduring his second deployment in Iraq. Sadly, he is accompanied by numerous soldiers also in their second deployment to Iraq. These soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines have seen things that would cause your panel of ad "experts" to have recurring nightmares.

Aside from ignoring rational fears, your advertisement excuses unacceptable behavior. What is legitimate about having a fear of commitment? And why would using your product excuse such behavior? Realizing that Mitchum (which also has a product for women) is manufactured by Revlon, and that Revlon manufactures an extensive line of cosmetic products, I presume that Revlon is willing to accept that women who do not appreciate the Mitchum commercial will discontinue use and purchase of all Revlon products.

I intend to forward a copy of this to all of the military wives with whom I keep in contact. I anticipate that those wives will share my discontent and will continue to forward this on to all of their address book contacts as well. I feel confident that my voice will be heard. I do not stand alone in this matter.
