Bus service / Greyhound

Destination: New York City to Toronto – Saturday, May 28, 2005 To whom it may concern, I was appalled by the service that I received from a reputable company such as Greyhound. On Saturday, I left New York City (Manhattan) terminal on the 8:45 pm bus to return home to Toronto at 6:45am. The reason for my complaint is the bus driver that drove from New York City to Buffalo was extremely rude and much disoriented. I understand that Greyhound’s policy states that if I am traveling with a baby and given that there are extra seats, it can be used for the baby. I was traveling with a 15 month baby and had an extra seat beside me, which I was going to occupy for the baby when the driver put another passenger there. There were four other vacant seats in front of us and I requested the driver if the gentleman can be seated there instead. Without a reason he said “No” and when I asked if these seats were reserved for other passengers, he said “no”.

When I tried to explain that I was hoping to use that seat beside me for my daughter; he obnoxiously turned and said “Throw the god damn baby out the window”. He also threatened that if I don’t like it that I can get off the bus and make my complaint in Buffalo. When I asked for his name to make a complaint, he simply ignored me. He was very demeaning and caused me great embarrassment in front of everyone. Shortly after the bus left the terminal, I realized that the seats were being held for his co-driver, which he laid on the entire way from New York City to Buffalo. His behavior convinced me that he was disabled in some way, perhaps drunk. Please let me know if there is a policy that states that the bus driver has to occupy all four front seats to lie down and sleep the entire way from New York City to Buffalo until his shift begins. Also please confirm that if this is a policy, that the driver has the right to speak to a passenger that way. I am certain that Greyhound will compensate me for my discomfort and embarrassment in some way. Please let me know at your earliest how Greyhound plans to resolve this matter.
