Earthlink problems Earthlink problems
Dear Complaints.com, In January of 2005 I contacted Earthlink about upgrading from dial-up service to DSL service. They told me about a great special on accessories (Router and USB cards. It sounded like a great idea so, after I told them I had an Apple computer they sent me a USB card that would only work with a PC, not an Apple Computer. After the first Earthlink technician couldn't understand me because of his lack of English language training, I spoke with another technician who then sent me a return label so I could ship everything back and get full credit. I received a RMA label from Earthlink and promptly sent everything back to them. On my next bill (February 2005) I noticed that Earthlink was listing $228.75 as overdue. I called Earthlink again, explaining the whole situation. They said to mail them the payment and they'll refund it back to me. I thought this as strange, but it is the only way they do business. Again, I had great difficulty explaining the situation because of a strong accent on the part of the Earthlink Rep. On February 10, 2005 I sent check#1271 for $228.75 to Earthlink. By April 25, 2005 I had not seen a refund as promised. I called Earthlink again, this time I talked with Jason (case #1676719). Jason told me the check would be credited to my bank account. I thought this was strange since Earthlink does not have my account number. I could hardly understand Jason because of his mid-east accent and there was again, a language barrier. On May 23, 2005 I talked with Anne (case #95581826). Anne said the check should have gotten to me by now. Earthlink sent it out on March 4, 2005. She said that Earthlink has put a special rush on this case and if I don't see a check within the next 3-5 days call again. On May 27th I called Earthlink again and talked with Anne. After explaining the situation again and holding online for 4 minutes, Anne returned to tell me that the check had not been sent out as had been told to me in the past due to an accounting error. Anne also told me that the amount owed to me was $149.70 instead of $228.75. I asked her to explain why the difference and she explained that the difference was due to shipping and handling charges. The math does not add up. I asked to speak to her supervisor and was told that it would not do any good because he would just tell me the same thing. I am still waiting on the refund for equipment that was sold to me based on the wrong operating system. This equipment was recommended to me by Earthlink even though I explained to them I was using a McIntosh Computer. Since February of 2005 they have had $228.75 of my money and it does not sound like I will ever see the entire amount I paid them with taking legal action.
