Called sbc today and everyone I spoke to said something different, at one stage I was quoted $20 to cancel the contract and at another stage it went upto $200, as soon as this contract is up I leaving sbc, they are a lying bunch of toe rags. If I did not know better I would have said that each person working for the company in customer services has to take and pass the stupidity test, thats the only reason I can think of that everyone would give me a different story each time I speak to them, even down to the toll free number of customer services given to me by customer services(turned out to be a number to report line problems), I even read the number back to them for confirmation, and I read the number back to a supervisor and still no correction was made, the amazing thing is, I explained to both people (one a supervisor) that if my dad did not get satisfaction by calling this number we would cancel the contract, so knowing this you would have thought they would ensure that I had the right number, but it looks like they want the fast $200 bucks without working for it, after all why wait 10 months and heaven forbid provide ALL that service for DSL, when you can provide no service and get the money instantly, its beginning to look like their not that stupid after all and are the only people with their heads screwed on to the way that the company thinks, they want a fast buck and they want it NOW. If you are considering a contract with this company take the advice of all the other people on this group NEVER EVER GO TO sbc, save yourself all that heartache. I originally called only to change the bill from my dads name into mine, so I thought I would not need to cancel the contract, just do a name change, after all the only thing to change was the person paying the bill, we were going to keep all the services, but no they want to classify it as a cancellation so they get that extra $200 busck FAST. sbc SUCK BIG TIME STAY WELL CLEAR. :( I found this company for Houston Tx Houston dsl, that offers a faster line speed at the same price as sbc and a 30 money back guarantee if you’re not happy with the service, looks like thats where I am going at the end of the contract. I will be voting with my feet and moving my account to a new supplier, as will most of the other posters here. Except the sbc workers who advise you to accept it and dont be a cry baby, they would say that after all, their jobs depend on it. If youre dissatisfied would you still stay for extra abuse? My view of sbc is that they will financially and mentally F*** you good and proper, so unless that’s your objective, don’t even go there. Anyone thinking its ok I can switch the contract to a friend to avoid the $200 fee, as soon as they know its a friend they will charge you the $200 (I could not even do a name change from my dad to me, with the same surname), and its easy for your friend to slip up when talking to customer services and give their own name instead of yours, they may even be asked for social security numbers like I was today, are you prepared to give that out to your friends.
