The preparer for my 2003 taxes did not know how to enter my RRB 1099 and RRB 1099-R amounts although they were on the same sheet of detachable forms to be attached to my 1040. She neglected to add $11,000 and now I have to pay an additonal $1,700 by next month.
When I went in to one of their year-round offices to find out why IRS sent me the letter, H & R Block said, "Oops, you didn't purchase 'Peace of Mind' coverage, so we aren't responsible for the $1,700." Why did I get charged $170 for the initial preparer's fee for a 1040, Schedule A and State filings? With the software and the computer, it's not like she had to do any calculations. So, I had to buy insurance from them to cover their goof-ups???
I, personally, prepared my 2004 taxes based on how they applied the numbers for 2003 ... after all, they are the experts. Now, I have to re-do my 2004 taxes because I know they are wrong!!!
They're only data entry people, not tax experts!!!
