Husband gave me a new 10 gallon tank for Valentines Day, it had everything, live plants, natural rocks, a sunken boat etc. we set it up waited the 24 hours to make sure water was ok. Then went to Pet Smart to adopt our fish. We spoke to a "fish expert," explained the size of our tank, and she said it was ok to put two fancy gold fish and an Algee eater in the tank, my husband saw a Male Betta in a cup, and thought it was cruel, so he asked if we could adopt a Betta as well, she said no problem, but they like it Hot. I said gold fish like it Cold like 65', no problem was her response, Gold fish can take the heat. My husband

then wanted to adopt two more tiny gold fish, we asked is the tank too small, she said they will be just fine.

Our fish environment was not fine, it was overcrowded, it was too hot, bacteria was forming, Ammonia was high even though we changed the water every 3 days, My fancy Gold fish were trapped in a Sauna. We purchased another tank, and separated the gold fish from the Betta, to help get the temperature controlled and we did a 50% water change. My fish all died.

Pet Smarts remarks were, we will give you your money back....that is why we have the 14 day guarantee. This is no way to do business. We trusted them to give us accurate advice, but instead, they killed our fish by saying it was ok to overcrowd a tank. One goldfish needs to live in a 10 Gallon tank. A Betta needs to live in a 3 gallon tank, with warm water, they eat insects and shrimp.

Pet Smart will tell you anything to get you to buy more fish, and they will say it was such authority. Do not seek advice from Pet Smart. Buy a book or go on line. Don't make the same mistake as I did. don't buy the painted fish, because it is cruel they take needles of dye and inject them into the fish.

The Betta's sit in a cup until they die, they do not feed them, they say they have a 14 day guarantee. "If they die just tell us and we will give you your money back"

No big deal to them.
