AOL / Cancel Service

AOL Ok...I have been an AOL customer for 10 years, and today, I called to cancel. Not because AOL had awful service, but because I got married, and went with new . So, here is where my nightmare of an evening began. I called AOL and selected the cancellation choice on the voice automated system. I was sent to a representative screenname JOHNNYSOAZ, to which I informed him I would like to cancel service. Well he said he could do that and then started asking me personal questions about internet usage, music downloads, entertainment, etc. (Keep in mind, my husband was in the next room and I have a 6 month old sleeping nearby). I knew I would probably have to endure the sales pitch to stay, however, I had my mind made up prior to dialing the phone. My address book was cleaned out, and notifications were sent to friends and family of my new address. So, I humored young JOHNNY and reiterated that I would like to cancel, AGAIN, AND AGAIN, AND AGAIN, AND AGAIN, AND AGAIN....(imagine this going on for a really long time)... He kept saying "I can do that, but what I'm gonna do is send you an e-mail talking about the services that WE just discussed" OK - WE didn't discuss anything, HE told me about them... then he said "you will get two months credited and then at that time..." Ok at what time? So at the end of the two months I was going to be billed if I didn't call to cancel. I told him I am canceling NOW and would not use any services. He said something about a cancellation taking 8-10 minutes. I said again - I want to cancel now...He said "what about your husband" I said "what about him" he said "would he like them" I said "no" He said "how do you know" So quite ANNOYED and after about 15 minutes of this, I said "want me to go and get him?" ( I love my husband dearly and nearly peed in my pants at what happened next) I didn't even have to go get my husband because he picked up the phone and chewed the guy a new behind, and he wasn't even swearing, just speaking firmly to the fact that his wife would like to cancel service. Ok...after another 10 minutes of that, I got the phone back from hubby. And it started again about these GREAT SERVICES. Yadda, Yadda, Yadda.... So, I finally told JOHNNY that I was annoyed and I wish to cancel, and he said I don't need to talk like that. The guy was nuts and highly trained in the art of manipulation. Again, I said, "JOHNNY I wish to cancel service, NOW" and he said "I can do that for you, but what I'm gonna do..." I said "NO!" Then he went on to say how 80% of AOL customers that leave, come back. I informed him that would not be the case with me as any chance of returning went out the door 25 minutes ago. I said I would go to my grave never saying one nice thing about AOL. He laughed and I said you think this is funny. He said that I made a joke. Then I got really angry, and told him that I want to cancel my service right now, and if they charge my credit card on March 9 (NOT May 9 after two months of credited service) that they would be receiving a phone call from my attorney, and then we shall see how that goes. Well, let me tell you, I got a cancellation number, started typing this complaint, and called my doctor for a tranquillizer.
