complaints for greendot.com
To Whom it concerns,
I would like to change the coins to dollor bill. I went to Coinstar machine in Aberston. I ended with a receipt to force me to apply a new card. the process fee for changing coins ends up to almost $50 (Processing fee: $18.24; new card fee $9.95; forced upgrade fee $19.95) .
$50 fees look like robbery to me.
My complaints are: 1. The customers don't have the option to take the cash or not; 2. The customers don't have the options to choose whether I need new card or not; 3. The customers force to have the upgrade card option, ends up to be changed $19.95. 4. The cards can be only used in the a few listed store. The customers are being force again. 5. No real person on line to ask the question.

I have used a card for several months now. Paying $4.95 everytime I reload it... I purchased a moneypak to reload the card and it wouldnt work, after 20 minutes on the phone I finally spoke to someone and they told me my account was closed due to frequent reloads, which was roughly once a week or so. I was tolod to simply purchase a new card, set up a new account & I'd be fine. WRONG! So i paid for a new card, reloaded money and now must wait for a refund. I purchased today a Walmart Money Card, buyer beware, Walmart Money Cards go through greendot. So now I need to also wait for that refund. I enjoyed the convenience of using my on hand cash, from a job where I make tips to make purchases & pay bills w/o having to wait days til my bank credited the $$$ to my account, but I reloaded too often, its insane and now I must sit and wait for $200 in refunds. No customer service people were helpful at all, had I known Walmart used greendot I would have never in a million years purchased the card. And they will also only refund what I loaded onto the card, not the $4.95 I paid for the moneypak. I think it is poor business practice and something needs to be done. I have searched and cannot find a prepaid credit card that is not associated with greendot. For some people I am sure this puts them in a real bind! First I was hung up on, Then another girl put me on hold and was laughing when she came back to the phone!!!! Another kid would not give me a supervisor. Finally i spoke to Brian supposedly the manager, he said he was sorry and that he would take care of my request, althou the kid I spoke to before said the mastercard had already gone out. I will definetly try to find another prepaid mastercard that I can reload. I was so excited we had found a way to deal with my daughter studying abroad in Ecuador. not only was it emotional of her leaving but then have to deal with this whole mess was ridiculous. I have so much more to say but i do not even know where this is poing. tonia From: Message Author (click here to email author)Date: Sunday, 11-Jan-09 09:21:26 CST Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This Comment On ThisActually, you can get hold of a person in customer service, for a fee of 2.00 per call. And then they apparently are located in the Philippines. They don't have answers for you, so you waste two dollars on the call. It seems that the card is only good for making purchases at stores, but when you try to get the money OUT of the card, it's a hassle. No ATM seems to want to take my card, and they are not on time with putting money in through Direct Deposit. It seems like a huge scam and money sucking scheme to me. I ended up with a card number, plus the 19.95 for an upgraded card. Then when I added more funds to have a little cushion for the ticket, I called to activate ended rushed thru the call, ended up with another card and another 19.95. The people you speak to are in India, you do not speak to an American when you call, then they can help you you have no other choices. I bet the company will not even get these e-mails, or someone that cares or can do something about it. From: Message Author (click here to email author)Date: Thursday, 09-Oct-08 13:14:42 CDT Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This Comment On ThisI bought a greendot card thinking I would use it as a gasoline card. The first time I went to use it it was declined. I called to find out the reason. "insufficient funds": seems that just between the time I purchased it and the time I wanted to use it there were fees being charged that had brought my balance down to an amount that was "insufficient". I have tried to contact by phone. The electronic menu does not give me any option to speak with an agent, and there is no option that will let me ask for a refund on my card. I think it is a horrible, frustrating deal and I would strongly advise DONT BUY ONE OF THESE CARDS! Ther is ZERO customer service. I have yet to find a way to contact anyone. In the meantime I have lost $5 per month for the past three months that I have had my card. From: Message Author (click here to email author)Date: Wednesday, 03-Sep-08 14:24:28 CDT Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This Comment On ThisI just bought a green dot card at rite aid and put $40 on the card. I called to activate it and they claim that supposedly i had 2 previous cards from 2002 and 2003 [when i was a minor-why would i need a card when i'm 16?]...needless to say i never had a prepaid credit card at that time. they told me to file a police report because after the accounts were inactive they continued to charge a $5 monthly maintenance fee to "my" accounts, the owed balance is now $38. I'll just pay it because it's not worth the aggravation of the investigation to me...they are holding my money hostage though. they won't refund the money i put on today until i pay the balance from "my" overdrawn accounts. Not only that, they wouldn't even email me a copy of that report they got that had that information! They claim a supervisor has to do it and they don't have one tonight...hmmm that sounds interesting. Supposedly there will be one tomorrow and you bet I'll be calling first thing to have that emailed to me. When I say they--the first person I spoke to, who barely spoke english, hung up on me. the second did speak english and was patient with me, i will give him that. I'll be contacting the BBB also over this. What a bunch of scumbag thieving leprechaun crooks! From: Message Author (click here to email author)Date: Saturday, 31-May-08 21:05:53 CDT Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This Comment On ThisWARNING!! WARNING!!!! WARNING!!!!!! To whom it may concern. Tried to Reload 500.00 on my greendot card, called in received confirmation that account was in deed at 500.00 and when I went to use it to pay a bill. It was declined because balance was only at 4.95. Tried to call customer service, what a joke. Not only do they not speak english, but they ask the same questions over and over. Faxed a copy of the register receipt from Walgreens and guess what, they didn't get the fax. Can't talk to a real supervisor because one can not be located after asking 10 times. This is a nightmare in itself. Is there anyone out there willing to contact their local Attorney Generals office in order to start a Class Action Lawsuit? Email back to brenmarie AT msn.com in subject line put GREENDOT LAWSUIT. I'm even considering sending all local news broadcasting companies with this information. The public needs to be aware of scams like these. With the economy the way it is, we don't just have 500.00 to give to these people. Needless to say as I'm writing this my fiance is still trying to speak with a supervisor. From: Message Author (click here to email author)Date: Friday, 23-May-08 18:36:36 CDT Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This Comment On ThisGreen Dot closed our card, and tried telling us it was at our request. We still had 500.00 dollars on there and had to threaten to sue in order to get our money back. We sent them a certified letter asking for them to cut us a check,. Weeks went by.. Nothing. When I did get someone who could speak english, they told me they had sent the check out twice and it was returned to them as undeliverable. I told them thats funny my certified letter , the return receipt came back to me, so I must live here. So we threatened to sue them and finally we got our money back. They also allow you to load money on closed accounts, and then just try to get your money back is a nightmare. As they do not tell you they have closed the account. They will close it if it is inactive for more than 3 months. I was told within a couple of hours the money would be manually loaded on to the card, that was Friday morning at 8am, today Sunday morning at 9am, I still have nothing. I got the run around from greendot, and coinstar everytime I called them. My final resolution from the supervisor at greendot was, there is nothing we can do just wait for the money to be loaded on your card. I was also told by the coinstar representative that they share a phone line with Albertson's and if they are receiving a fax or telephone call during the transaction it will malfuction their machine. whose bright idea was that? We spent over a month trying to activate a card in our sons name. They 'accidently' put the card in the parents name and when we kept calling to correct, we were transferred to someone else at least 25 times within the month. Not ONE single person spoke english clearly and when I finally got someone to activate the card in the parent name and just send it, they said "ok, we can send you an additonal card in your son's name". I'm thinking I finally have it resolved. Then they say that will be an additional $7.95. UGGGGHHHHH! Will not recommenend them to ANYONE!!!!!!
