480 235-6577 480 655-0855 Furniture is a tough market for a buyer, mark up is high and quality is sometime difficult to ascertain. In Arizona many franchise stores are run by a local business group as a local independent, and recourse through the franchise parent is not an option. Post purchase service and high pressure sales and vanishing today only deals, seems to be the norm. Independents generally know each others and the backroom of furniture wholesales is a closed and zealously guarded community. Initially we looked to find a good deal from a private seller. But after visiting the home of the 7th person who was going thru a divorce and just happened to have a house full of new furniture that he/she want to get rid of to start over, that just luckily happened to have a friend that had a moving truck, and if I did not like the color look in this catalog I can get you whatever you want because my brother\sister\uncle sells furniture and left his catalog here!!! In this market of misleading market and sales tactics and we sought out a local independent with a storefront and shunned the big market high volume stores. Focused on customer service and quality of craftsmanship as best we can tell not being furniture builders. Not being able to afford the luxury of an Ethan Allen, Norwood or the like, we previewed several stores, talked to the sales people and owner when possible. Researched the business and owner with the Better Business Bureau and did price checks as best as possible. In November 2004 we purchased a nice marble top bedroom set from Design Services international, the store was nice and furniture construction was done in the back of the shop. Furniture was similar to a style that we were open to, but most of all, the owner Mary-Ellen came across as genuine and attentive. The furniture items were delivered and setup however one item the chest of drawers was not in stock and was ordered. This was noted on the delivery receipt and two weeks was the time frame given, two weeks came and went and we patiently waited a month. A call was placed and Mary-Ellen was out of town and the delivery person that delivered and setup, we were informed no longer with DSI, and that may have been the source of the confusion. Another two weeks and now were are in the Christmas holiday season. Mary-Ellen is again unavailable. A message was left, name number and reason for call. No response. We left it till after the new year to readdress the issue. At this call Mary is out of town. Two days later, she is still out of town. DSI is now not taking our calls. Calls from our home phone number go unanswered however when I call from my cell phone someone answers in two rings. At no point in time have our conversations been rude or abusive. But more and more they are insitent. Another week and Mary is out of town at a funeral. An unfortunate tragedy I am sure but there is a business to attend to. So, no calls for two weeks to allow her to take care of personal business. We purchase our furniture in the first week of Novemember. At this point it is the Last week of January. Mary-Ellen is still out of town. Now the calls (from my business number since calls from my home and cell do not get answered) are getting firmer, so is no furniture being sold at DSI? We have been patient and been awaiting the delivery. The man who answered the phone, (unfortunately I do not get his name) assure us that he was unaware of the issue, he will get a message to Mary-Ellen and resovle out issue before the end of the week. We wait two. We have filed a complaint with the better business bureau, and are pursuing a small claims case. This sucks however when our loss is 500-700 dollars but what I really want is the CHEST! The furniture is a unique design and have not seen it elsewhere. So Deliver the chest, or refund the money and be business conscience aware enough to direct me to a avenue to find the chest. Sooner or later cases like these become personal, and then getting the chest becomes secondary and returning the favor of no return calls and poor services, translates to ensuring that potential future customers of DSI Design Services International in Mesa Arizona are aware of what they are getting into.
