I had the same kind of bad experience that others have reported with mydigitalpalace.
On 17 Dec 2004 I used their web site to order a Panasonic PVGS 200 Camcorder. I received a call from a salesperson on 20 Dec 2004 assuring me that they had the camcorder in stock and would deliver in it time for Christmas.
He pressured me into buying an extra battery and warranty. On 27 Dec 2004 I received the order. It was not the camcorder I ordered. In fact, it was a cheap JVC GR-D90u camcorder which, according to the mailing labels on the box, they had already sent out several times. It was pretty beat up, and rather than including a camcorder battery, they instead sent some AA rechargeable batteries and a cheap recharger.
I tried to use the web site they claimed you needed to use in order to return an order. The site gave me a confirmation number and said someone would be contacting me within three days. No one called.
I went back to the web site and tried again. It gave me the same confirmation number. I discovered, after a couple of tries, that it always gave that confirmation number, even if you enter different information. I tried calling the 800 number listed on their web site. It was disconnected. I Googled them to find another number and discovered a number they had listed on their web site some time earlier (800 393-1192). I called that number and spoke to "Derek."
He told me to return the camera, not to the address listed on the invoice, but to 1080 McDonald Ave, Suite 303, Brooklyn, NY 11230. He said that my credit card would be credited when they received the camera. I paid $14 to ship it back through UPS. They never credited my credit card..
I ended up disputing the charge with my credit card company and it was dropped. I think I have finally resolved this matter, but it has left me very reluctant to order any consumer electronics over the web unless it's through a company I've already dealt with (such as Amazon). I did a web search on the different addresses and phone numbers used by mydigitalpalace and discovered that they use around a dozen different names and use various addresses scattered around Brooklyn. It seems that they are not the only bait and switch group using Brooklyn as their base of operations. Brooklyn is a lawless place. Caveat emptor. KJC Ann Arbor, Michigan Kevin J C
