Comcast Cable / Internet Service

On February 25, 2005 I sent the letter below to my former cable company, and I sent a copy of it to the Attorney General’s Office - Consumer Protection Division Comcast 30736 Hoover Rd Warren MI 48093 It appears Comcast has such a corner on the market now that the customer is not all that important any more. So, for the $12.46 they claim I owe, they felt it necessary to employ a collection agency and possibly ruin my credit rating. Is this for principles sake? I received a very brief, indiscriminate and somewhat offhanded notification on my bill from Comcast in November that prices would be increasing from $37.99 for my Preferred Basic service to $40.99. When I received my December bill, I was shocked to find that not only had my Preferred Basic service been increased and another month assessed in advance (I was already paying in advance), but my Internet service (which I was told up front when I ordered the service would remain the same – not a 6 month promo) had more than doubled.

This took my regular monthly bill in November from $53.79 to a whopping $158.02 in one month. I called on December 15th to have my service cancelled on December 16th, but my service was not shut off until ????. I paid my final bill based on the rate I should have been charged ($53.79 plus the $3.00 increase), and considered it ‘paid in full’. I have since received a notice/bill from a company called Credit Management, LP (a professional debt collection agency) of a $22.46 past due balance (I guess they have to make a living too). Though I have had very good service from Comcast when it comes to connectivity and dependability of signal, I have had billing and customer service issues that go beyond reasonable. It seems that Comcast no longer sees customer service as a priority in their massive, money hungry industry, and deems it necessary to go to these lengths to collect on charges that are beyond reason. March 28, 2005 I have heard back from the Attorney General’s Office, and they have promised to look into the matter, but I have had no response whatsoever from Comcast. Today I received another notice from the bill collection agency indicating that I still owe the $22.46. Where are you Comcast ??????
