MJ Electrical - Contractor from hell did my basement in VA

I had a construction company MJ Electrical based in Maryland finish my basement in Virginia. Under the contract- they were suppose to supply kitchen. They never did kitchen because they told me after signing the contract that I would have to pay more more because they realized that it would cost more for them to do it.

Also, I find out that a lot of things were done in a shoddy way and are not up to code- eg drywall needs repair, light switches are upside down. One big example is the toilet and sink are too close together. The contractor warned me that if I got the basement checked by county for permit, he would charge me more. So I did not get permit for basement.

Being an naive and amateur with construction, I thought his work was adequate and was nice to him by referring him to my neighbor. My neighbor who is architect knew better and kicked him out after only few weeks because of his shoddy work. I have heard people look at my basement and say that this is worst contract job they have seen.

He does not want to fix anything he has broke or did shoddy job of. I am looking at legal action now and other forums to publicize his incompetence so no one else has to do deal with this. He acts totally ignorant and is a slimeball.
