On November 1, 2003 I purchased a Sony Model # KV36F5100 from Standard Appliance in Bend Oregon. My sole purpose of purchasing this television out of town was that it was advertised in that store showroom as High Definition at which I considered a great price $999. I questioned the salesperson (Howard) and he confirmed that yes it was HD compatible but that HD was not available at this time in my area.
Once home I went through the manual and saw no reference to this being an HD TV. I called Howard and he assured me that the TV was not truly HD but HD compatible, which meant it needed an HD receiver. I was OK with this because I called our cable company and they said HD would be ready in the near future.
When HD television was advertised by our phone company I called them to have it installed. The service installer arrived and questioned that the TV was HD compatible and suggested that I call Sony and find out from them rather than waste money on the receiver. Sony said that this model was not compatible.
I was tricked and deceived into making this purchase. After making my complaint known to Standard's customer service department I received a phone call from Howard implying that I was lying. My son, his wife, my wife and myself all heard the words come out of Howard's mouth concerning the HD TV.
The difference between an HD compatible television and what I purchased and could have purchased another 36" television for is approximately $400.00. Standard Television & Appliance can settle this issue and do what is right by sending me a check for this amount.
