I share the same feelings here and would like to get this information out to other prospective buyers of Toshiba products. I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop with a faulty Motherboard, not just once but twice now since Nov 2002. Toshiba provides a 1 year warranty and of course my laptop last for 1 year 1 month before the first motherboard failure.
I paid Toshiba's repair cost for MB replaced, however now I am in the same boat again 1.25 years later. There have been other issues too such as tight hing caused case to crack at the hinge. There was not even a scratch on the case and Toshiba Rep explained that this was Laptop neglect and is not covered by any warranty they offer. It seems that it is just easy to say "pay up again" when or buy a new laptop. And yes Toshiba will offer things like $150 gift card to purchase other Toshiba products (which I refuse to do).
I am looking to purchase either a DELL (thank goodness I do not need their tech support though). I have also considered purchasing an HP or "Whitebook" as well but just do not know what direction I will go. I am disgusted with Toshiba now. The real sad part here, I do not think that this laptop has over 350 hours of running time total, I use desktops for most of my computer needs. Just nice to have laptop with wireless access to be FREE to move around and take with me on trips! ! !
