8680 Greenback Lane Ste 220 Orangevale,CA 95662 californiafamilyfitness.com/memberships.htm I just sent in a complaint about this company. Above is there corprate address and a link to thier "Membership Info" page. It actually states what I was told, But the contracts are pre-printed.
Various Locations throughout Sacramento County,California I recently joined California Family Fitness to meet my goals of losing weight. I went to several gyms and chose this one because of the welcoming atmosphere and the fact the salesman told me that I would be on a month-to-month contract and I was getting this special deal because I am a state employee. I told him that I had heard this from a few co-workers and that is why I decided to check them out. I was very happy with the deal because I had had very bad experiences in the past because of long term contracts.
Well, I lost my visa and had to cancel the card. I forgot to inform California Family Fitness of the new number. I finally contacted them to ask them to put my account on hold as I didn't think I could afford to pay the dues all at once. Instead of saying "hold" I stated "cancel". The service rep then went into her cancellation dialogue and informed me that I was on a 2-year contract and so forth. I immediately lost my temper and handled the call poorly.I could not believe what I was hearing. To hear the exact opposite of what I was told was so distressing. I could not fathom that I was outright lied to. I had signed the contract with full trust in the company and it's presentation of the contract. I was stupid for doing so.
I had been fooled by the easy going "We care for you" attitude of the salesman. I know I should read contracts before I sign them.I am at fault for not doing so. But should companies be allowed to outright lie to their customers to get a sale? I asked that the salesman be reprimanded for what he did.I was told that wouldn't happen because it is the consumers responsibility to read contracts before they sign them. This tells me that the company is profit oriented and doesn't really care about the customer. I have no second chances in this.I have to pay $100 to cancel my membership. California Family Fitness will not give me any breaks on the matter and are cold to me when I contact them. I apologized for what I did, but they seem to think that their business ethics are fine;I can't get upset when they lie, but it is okay for them to lie to me. Save yourself money and stress, don't do business with California Family Fitness or go through the contract with a fine-tooth comb.
