"top of the line" Frigidaire washer and dryer set "top of the line" Frigidaire washer and dryer set
In October, 2003 my husband and I purchased a "top of the line" Frigidaire washer and dryer set. You know the ones, three thousand cycles, settings, water levels, etc. Top of the line piece of junk. In September 2004 the washing machine totally fell apart, needing new seals, bearings, bolts, inner tub, outer tub. After the "repair" of the machine by an authorized repairman, the agitator started clicking and banging with every use. Wash cycle, rinse cycle, any cycle involving the agitator. That was when the agitator was still working. The entire agitator shaft finally cracked right up the side. Up the entire side. So I call Frigidaire. They send out a Frigidaire repairman, assumably from their company. He states that the agitator is supposed to make that sound.
Didn't for the first year of use, but now it is supposed to. Maybe it was broken from the start then. Call in yet a third repairman, thinking Frigidaire just didn't really care to fix it since it was still under warranty and they weren't making any money off of me. Third repairman tells me "Frigidaire makes the worst washer on the market." How I wish I knew this before. I definitley know it now. Called Frigidaire AGAIN, and let me tell you, it is very hard to find a toll free phone number for this company, even had one "customer service rep" tell me they don't have a toll free number. I found one finally, after shelling out the money for the washing machine, paying numerous times to call these people from PA to Georgia, being on hold...you know the story.
Finally Frigidaire tells me they won't honor any future bills I incurr with this washer (they did pay a $106 bill after I called and made a big stink about it since I had to pay it out of my pocket to start with). Now they inform me they won't honor any future repairs for free on the piece of junk either. The woman claimed they had to draw the line somewhere. Wouldn't admit that sometimes a faulty piece of machinery comes off an assembly line.
We finally ended up buying a new, Roper, washing machine after the Frigidaire was just one and a half years old. Pretty sad for what is supposed to be top of the line material. Makes you wonder what the bottom of the line must be like. This washer was used in a home, four people in my family. How hard do you think this washer was used? Do yourself a favor. If you are looking for a washing machine, buy any brand but Frigidaire!!! I wish I had known about Complaints.com before buying mine.

This is now LG. Lucky Goldstar. Life's good ? NO Goldstar. Samsung and LG both are very hard to get parts for.. Whirlpool, GE are easier to get parts for and most are in stock. If you want a Quality Applicance, and I know sometimes they are not the prettiest with the most bells and whistles, but get a WHIRLPOOL. (Roper is a low end Whirlpool brand) Maytag, Whirlpool, Amana, Kitchenaid and some Kenmore all all WHIRLPOOL and they have several other brands. The Korean brands are very hard to get parts for. GE Appliances are the most frequest to have to repair, then Frigidaire. However, Frigidaire designs decent stoves. Keep in mind there are only (2) plant in the USA which make kitchen stoves. The old Tappen and Magic Chef plants. They make everyone's stoves in the US and put the "brand labels on them. I have been repairing appliances for 30 years and will have nothing in my house but a Whirlpool brand and usually get a mid level model to omit the hi-tech problamatic models with circuit boards ect, which all all made in CHINA for EVERY SINGLE BRAND and are more expensive to repair and have a longer lead times for parts. Whirlpool generally has the best supply of parts out of all of them and better customer service. STICK WITH WHIRLPOOL BRANDS !! Keep in mind there are always "defects" in any type of mass production, things will never be perfect on every single unit of ANY BRAND but Whirlpool is clearly superior from a Quality and repair standpoint from my 30 years of experience. We weren't even lucky enough to have real problems until after our warranty went up. We spent almost $400 to replace the control board in the washer 8 months after the warranty was up and now it's toast again. This time we also have to replace the main seal and several other things, meaning the repair would put us up near the $600 mark if we're lucky. We decided to trash it out and though we don't have the extra money were looking at purchasing an LG high efficiency top loader (I really got tired of the smell from the front load and keeping the door open makes me nervous with small kids) but a friend came through with an oldie but goodie for us until we can do some real research and also save some money after the holidays. Frigidaire is actually made by Electrolux, as are many other appliances and it makes me wonder if Electrolux only makes the Frigidaire products badly or if all of the name brands they hide behind are similarly bad. I didn't know about this site until I started looking around about my washer issues, but I will be keeping on my favorites after today!
