Alaska Airlines, Ketchikan Alaska

Firstly, Alaska has a total monopoly on the air travel from here, they are the only airlines that flies in or out of Ketchikan. Recently, my son and daughter came to visit. Both are in the Marines, one at Bangor in Bremerton, Washington, the other at Camp Pendleton, Southern California. My daughter asked Alaska Airlines about a military discount and was told that certainly, they give military discounts. She saved about 200 dollars on her airfare.

We then told my son, who would be flying from Seattle to here, and he then asked about the military discount. He was told no, he couldn't get one. When asked 'Why?', we were told that they only give them from certain areas.

That completely and totally does NOT make sense!! If they are going to give military discounts on flights then it should be across the board. At first I thought the reason might be because he was closer and it supposedly wouldn't cost him as much to get here. BUT! It only costs about 40 dollars less to fly to Ketchikan, Alaska from Seattle, than it does from San Diego, California. Something stinks, and I would love some answers!
