Re: a problem with AmSouth bank

I am unable to close my acct with AmSouth Bank. Their address is: AmSouth Bank By Mail, PO Box 628327, Orlando, Fl 32862-8327, FAX no 205-560-3879. 800-A,SOUTH (800-267-6884). I've been trying to close my acct for the last couple of months. Each time I call, I talk to the different rep, and all of them telling me basically the same story: your acct will be closed and the money forwarded to you in, well, the time ranging from 24 - 48 hrs to 14 days. When I don't receive the money, I call them again and the same routing repeats all over. Yesterday I called again and was advised to fax them a notarized request which I did but they ignored it. Later on I called to verify and found my acct still open. I need this money to pay off one of my bills, if I don't, they will start a collection process which will ruin my credit, and only because AmSouth would not release my money.

I tried to enroll onto their Internet Banking but this might take even longer. Besides, according to their rules, I could even get rejected. While on their web site which by the way, is designed very poorly, I was asked a bunch of personal questions which have nothing to do with my acct and I never had any kind of a loan with them. I don't even know whether that web site was secure. I wonder if they checked my credit report without my authorization.

I filed a complaint with BBB, this alone could take 30 days. I don't know what else to do, where to turn for help. I wonder if I am the only one whom AmSouth treats this way. I emailed them, this went unanswered. Might have been forwarded directly into a recycle bin.
