Carpet Installed
My name is Jon Lilleboe and I had Carpet installed at my residence and my rental property earlier this year (2005). I had never purchased carpet before so this was a learning experience( Carpet King made sure of that it happened after the fact).
I measured all the rooms and brought the room dimensions to Carpet King and had them give me an estimate. The sales associate was not interested in room sizes just the total square footage (I did not know at the time this would make a big difference even in an estimate). The sales associate made me aware that this was an estimate and that I would be getting updated information after one of Carpet Kings associates came out to measure.
They came to measure and when the Carpet King associate was leaving he had me sign a piece of paper which I assumed was just that he had been there and measured( he never mentioned anything to me about the massive increase in how they measure and how I did it, and that when I signed that piece of paper I was also giving them authorization to order the carpet(he never mentioned those small details).
They measure a room out of a 12 ft. roll of carpet and I just measured from 1 wall to the next. Don't misunderstand me... I measured my room dimensions correctly but there is big difference between that and the amount of carpet they need to cut it out of( you pay for the install as well as the carpet ... even on all the wasted carpet- this is an industry wide practice I was told).
I will get to the point now and tell you that they installed the exact amount of square footage as I had measured and that was on the original estimate. However the final bill was $1000.00 more at each property for a grand total of $2000.00 more than the estimate (and this is on a bill that was only 4,000.00).
I was never told of this difference, I found out from a bill after most of the carpet was installed. I called the manager there and spoke with her for an hour explaining the situation and all she could do was back her company saying that there is no way that we couldn't have known the price and that she was sure her sales associate would have mentioned the difference on phone call that took place after the measure.....that phone call was placed on my behalf to let them know that we wanted to take the bathroom off of list of rooms to carpet and nothing was mentioned about the increase at that time. They didn't even place a call to me after the measure to inform me of the difference! I may have gotten a good deal still? But how they went about conducting they're business with me has made me decide to not ever do any business with them again. I have another 600 Sq. ft. of carpet that they will not be getting my business for. Buyer Beware!!!
Carpet King thank you so much for the lesson in how carpet installs work. I know this won't happen to me again because you taught me so thoroughly.
Jon
