Biostar Motherboard

I bought a Biostar M7VIG 400 from CompUSA online.

The Owners Manual States the highest memory accepted is PC3200. Once installed the computer overclocked and then refused to boot up. When I found out the manual was in error after looking online for updated info on the motherboard, I then installed the next fastest which was PC2700 and computer still did not work. It was then I examined the DIMM slot and noticed one of the pins was burned. Then I could see the memory was ruined in the same spot.

I was first told

"Sorry, the motherboards do not support the PC3200 speed but does not fry or damage memory. Please consult with your memory manufacturer for help.

== I consulted COMPusa and they will not replace the memory because it is damaged. The memory manufature wasn't the one printing false info in an owners manual.

We have put in PC3200 memory from Kingston, Crucial, Buffalo, Kingmax, Corsair, Geil, OCZ. No problems so far, just won’t run at PC3200 speed but downclocked to a lower speed.

== Sorry, didn't downclock. There was even a plastic burning smell.

Damages like this are generally caused by human error, I would know because I too have done it myself without knowing it. I either put the memory in the wrong way or not all the way in.

==If memory is not all the way in the computer will not boot up. And it doens't fry components or slots.

Or there is a object in the way that I could not see which shorts the components. You can ask people on the Forums/internet, they will tell you the same thing.

==If there was an object in the slot big enough to short out a DIMM, then the DIMM probably would not have been able to go in the slot.

=== Funny, first it says they do not support PC3200 but then yes, but the speed has to be lowered. The DIMM only goes in the slot one way, and generally, if the the 2 clips on either side do not clip on the DIMM, then it needs to be pushed in more.

Then he wrote

The PC3200 memory does work, just not at that full speed. Again, the damage is not caused by speed.

oh really? I wish I had the chance to get into the BIOS to slow things down before the DIMM got fried.

All I'm asking is to have BIOSTAR replace the $54 memory stick that was ruinned because of their misprint in the owners manual.

pS: My message accidently went to Biostar in Taiwan and this is what they said:

Dear Customer, We unable understand what you are saying. Could you please advising us ?

What's the Owners Manual ? Thank you very much. Keith
