Kenmore Elite HE3 front loading washer

I purchased this machine and immediately began to notice splashes of permanent grey stains on my clothing, some small and some large and not all clothes being affected. The service people from Sears have not been of much help and only suggest that it may be the softener being thrown out of the cycle at incorrect times and mixing with dry clothes.

They claim everything is working well with the unit and only suggested not to use fabric softener at all and to make sure I use an HE detergent only because other types may suds too much and through the cycles off balance. I am extremely upset and Sears claims they are not hearing of other complaints with this model and stains on clothes.
