I have one more horror story on B of A that I have no idea how to solve. I opened my online account information one morning to see a deposit of $888,888.88. Since I made no such deposit, I dropped by my branch to inform them. There I was told the account I have held for the last six years was closed for fraud. Evidently a $500.00 check that was paid to me by someone else and subsequently deposited in my checking account was written on a closed account. We immediately notified the writer of the check and, with sincere apologies, they sent a wire transfer. Evidently, they accidentally picked up an old checkbook in their desk drawer.

Unfortunately, the old checkbook was on a Washington Mutual account that they earlier closed because someone had stolen their identity. Washington Mutual closed this account my check was written on and transferred their money to a new account. The check writer was terribly embarrassed and wrote a letter for us to B of A. Washington Mutual who held the accounts also wrote a letter to B of A explaining the mix-up, stating that the check writer was in good standing at the bank and telling them of the closed account. None of this made any difference to B of A. Our account was labeled fraud because we had unknowingly deposited the check. B of A not only closed my account, but put word of a possible fraud to all other banks and checking service. Thus a new checking account I opened was also canceled. Whenever we try to talk to B of A, I am directed to the Fraud Department, who treat me like a suspected thief. In the meantime, funds in excess of $2500.00 were tied up with no access granted. The branch manager of this small branch just shrugs and says there is nothing he can do. I can not even find someone with authority to complain to. If anyone has any idea where to direct this problem, I would be most appreciative. Click this link to e-mail the message author: Email User
