Black and Decker Coffeemaker -- DO NOT buy UTC model ODC405

I've tried twice and have given up. Initally ordered online (overstock.com) the new ODC405 UTC with stainless carafe online only to receive a used and dirty coffeemaker. After some negotiations they did authorize return including sending me the return mailing label. Then bought the same model at Target. Got home and installed under the cabinet and then tried to make coffee.

The coffee tastes like metal. I confirmed it was not the coffee's problem. but the carafe. I tried various ways to remove the odor (baking soda, vinegar, lemon) with no luck. I had a disastrous (and useless) experience both waiting on hold for customer support and receiving nothing but a rather rude "party line" response.

They would not send me a replacement glass carafe as it didn't come with that model. I then went back to Target and the salesman was very pleasant and sensitive to my problem and experience. The display coffeemaker had a same odor as mine and got similar turned-up-nose response by the salespeople. They gladly took it back.

As B&D seems to be the only mfg of under the counter and the only "new" model is the useless one with a defective metal carafe, .... I'm in a bind. Any suggestions appreciated.
