I used Charter One Bank for just over a year, and requested them to close my account in Sept. 2004. I recently received a collection notice stating a balance of over $1000 for charges that came after the close request.

They do not return phone calls and when I go in to speak to them about it all the managers tell you something different. When the account was supposed to be closed there was a positive amount in the account and a check was supposed to be sent to me for the balance. Instead, they charged me for their mistakes STAY AWAY FROM CHARTER ONE!
