They said they had it for $469. Too-good-to-be-true alarms were going off...but I went ahead... I confirmed that it was for the body only and they agreed. The sales person did try to upsell me way overpriced accessories, but that's what salesmen do, I declined and he proceeded with the order. He said the camera would be shipped UPS and I would receive it in 7-21 days. He gave me a confirmation number and we ended the call. Less than an hour later it occurred to me that he did not quote me a shipping cost or a total price to be charged on my card. I emailed them and requested both figures. No reply... I started getting nervous and googled "Royal Camera" and opened a big-ole bucket of worms. It seems MANY MANY people have had nothing but trouble with this company for the exact same scam. I immediately froze my credit card to prevent the charge from going through. Since it was after hours I emailed Royal Camera again and let them know that due to the huge number of consumer complaints I had found online, I had frozen the account and I needed exact totals, specific shipping dates, and tracking numbers before I would authorize any charge. More than a day later, I received a poorly worded email reply that I should call their long distance "customer Service" department to discuss the situation. I was already convinced it was a scam but decided to play along for grins. I checked their website for their toll-free number and when doing so I found that they had amazingly (and amusingly) changed their homepage to list customer testimonials. I called their "Customer service department" and provided the confirmation number I was given when I placed my order and the person who answered couldnt even tell what I had ordered.
When I told him I was trying to confirm that "Royal Camera" was a real company, your "Customer Service" representative said: "We are not a real company, sir, I'll cancel your order right away." and hung-up on me. Fortunately it didn't cost me anything but there are apparently many others who were not as fortunate, read the BBB report on the company and search other forums to develop your own opinions. I'm even copying them with this complaint in hopes that they will realize that the gig is up and they'll shut-down their scam-site so others don't fall into the trap. Buyer beware. C.
