People PC is unreputable .. just try to Cancel their service! People PC is unreputable .. just try to Cancel their service!
I have been reading the complaints of others just like me who have had the SAME EXACT problem in trying to cancel their PeoplePC Service. They have given me the same basic runaround they have given everyone else. I emailed People PC on May 24th to cancel my PeoplePC service I have had for two years. I received no reply but found they had no problem billing me again on 6/2. I emailed them again and received a response that you had to call to cancel.
The next day I called to cancel. The girl, Peggy was very nice and asked if I was sure I wanted to cancel that I could use the PeoplePC account as a backup. I told her with my new DSL connection that I already had a dial-up back-up account and did not need this service any longer. She told me basically the same story I see that has been told to numerous other customers with small variations. "You are such a good customer, I will refund your money and you can use the PeoplePC as a backup dialup account. I immediately questioned her, I want to cancel my service, will it be cancelled.. Oh yes she told me.
However, on 7/5 I noticed they billed me for their monthly service again. Come to find out "she meant" it was free for a month! That is NOT what she told me at all, but that is sure what she put in her written records! I see in other complaints where they told consumers, oh keep it for another month to get your email addresses and such off? They will say ANYTHING to skirt the issue of whether you "cancelled" according to their rules. The first time they bill you they say, well do you have a cancellation number? Of course you don't because the other rep did not intentionally give you one. So they have bilked you for one month more of service.
I ended up like everyone else talking to numerous people, 3 customer service reps and one supervisor today. They all say the same thing.. you did not get a cancellation number, of course, I didn't know until I did not have one that you needed one. Of course, they already knew that it was a way to bill me for an additional months service. One of the three customer service reps questioned why I would not still want to use their dialup service just because I had DSL? I asked him is this is a trick question.. DSL or dialup.. let me think about it.
I finally told the supervisor, one of us is lying huh. Let's see I get an email saying to call to cancel, and I call the next day to cancel. You have a record of that call, what do you think I called for to talk about the weather? I called and cancelled my account! I highly suggest the Better Business Bureau gets a class action suit started. Enough is enough... as long as they can get away with skirting legalities and totally misrepresenting in their written records the truth of the actual conversations they will. They do this by saying one thing to you and writing in their written records something totally different. That is dishonest and unethical.. this is not a business anyone should do business with.
My question is all other business "tape their conversations and such to authorize payments" I would suggest that the BBB order PeoplePC to do the same thing with account cancellations, then the lying and misrepresentation by their company trained reps will stop.
If they do this to 1,000 customers a month.. that is $10,950 to $14,950 depending on what service you are on. Multiply that by 10,000 customers a month and what do you get in additional monthly income --100,000+!! I think of the disadvantaged and elderly who are probably bilked by this disreputable company and don't even know it.
File a complaint with the BBB.. their headquarters are in San Francisco, CA www.sanmateo.bbb.org/ they have numerous unresolved complaints just like ours.
