If you are shipping your car, please beware of the Car Carrier (P.O. Box CC, Pasadena, CA 91102 - 800-800-1001).
I have had a terrible experience with them regarding service in general and customer service. My car was picked up in Boston on June 15, 2005 and it was to be delivered in approximately 7-13 days to San Francisco. I called on June 22 (after waiting the suggested 7 days) and they could not provide me with an exact time as to when it would arrive. The company is very bad about providing estimates, and is not responsive to phone calls and messages (as you will see below). I was annoyed that I wasn't able to get a firm estimate as to when my car would arrive (they don't seem to be able to "track" cars very well), but I was patient.
On June 28th, I called the Car Carrier and they called back saying that my car would arrive June 29-July 2, but they could not give me an exact day. They also told me that I would only receive 2-4 hours notice meaning that I would have to be able to be at home within 2-4 hours after receiving a call during this 72 hour period. Obviously, I wasn't able to go anywhere for the July 4th weekend. THE CAR never arrived during that time, and I was not able to get in touch with anyone about the whereabouts of my car.
The Car Carrier did not even contact me on July 5, the first business day after they failed to deliver the car. I had to call them and asked for an explanation and a time when my car would be delivered - they promised to check and call back. I also asked to speak to a manager, but s/he never called me back. I never heard from them that day.
On July 6, I called the Car Carrier in the morning and again asked about when my car would be delivered, and to speak to a manager (who never did call me back, despite another attempt to speak to one). An employee did call me back and said that the car would be delivered today, July 6. I did not hear from them, and fear that my car will never be delivered.
The Car Carrier does not give straight answers, they don't seem to know where my car is, and their customer service is horrible. After having such a negative experience with them, I looked them up at the Better Business Bureau website, and they have an "F" rating- the lowest rating possible. I wish I had done this before I hired them (they were recommended to me by a reputable mover in Boston!). Needless to say, I suggest that you do not use their services- they are very frustrating to deal with.
