FAULTY TOSHIBA TV from day 1 -- Toshiba 14ni1x Color TV

I bought 2 Toshiba 14ni1x Color TVs on 12-05-2002. One set (S.N. 1111001270) showed a small color patch on the right bottom of the screen from day 1 (and also three color spots on switching off by remote). I complained on the 14-05-2002 (Tel.: 9628096281). The service engineer assured me that the patch will disappear by itself within six months as it was normal with these hi-quality TV(s). Sometimes, the set would not show a patch in a particular placement.

But after a few weeks, the patch would appear. Two and half years have gone by and the patch has grown bigger and in number. Finally, I complained on 04-10-2004 (complaint no.: DNT4J04009) and after two visits of the service engineer in three days, he told me to take the set to the Videocon Khanpur service centre (South Delhi). After locating the exact venue of the service centre, I gave the set on 25-10-2004. The service centre engineer told me that the CPT (Picture Tube) is defective and needs to be changed. He also assured me that this will be done in 2-3 days. On Nov. 1, 2004, he informed me that Videocon has sent the CPT but it is not fitting in my TV! On further enquiring, he informed me that it was not Toshiba make. I spent my hard earned money to buy TOSHIBA TV and the main component is the TOSHIBA CPT (which before purchase I verified from Videocon). I told the service centre that I would not accept this change. The company finally arranged a CPT (TOSHIBA) and asked me to collect the TV on Dec. 20, 2004. On my reaching there, I found the same small patch problem, which was there on day 1 of purchase of this TV. The engineer again gave the same old reply that this will subside by itself as it was magnetic related. Still, the engineer changed at least two more components, but with no success. Why should I be made to suffer for no fault of mine? Also, there was no response from any of the emails I sent to Videocon. It is really sad. Clarification... I sent an email to kentoshcso AT videoconmail on Jan. 04, 2005, this is the only email I got a reply from Mr. Milind Pandey. Thanks. Till today, I have talked to Mr. Sachin Anaspray (Tel.: 02431-251525), Videocon, Aurangabad (said would help. 16&17 Nov. 2004, not accessible after that), Mr. Alok (Tel.: 9212503113) (sees only his point of view, determined to solve, but heard no positive news from him, was in favour of fitting a non-Toshiba CPT), Mr. Ashish Bhargava (Tel.: 9871094537) (6 Dec. 2004, I met him personally, helpful, said solution will be in two days, 31 days have passed) Mr. Sehgal (Tel.: 9212503111) (concerned), Mr. Milind Pandey, (Tel.: 9890400966) Videocon, Aurangabad (Jan. 3&4, 2005 said will check into the matter). On Jan. 6, 2005 the set was shifted to the Videocon Okhla service centre. I went there in the evening with some hope. My TV was kept open. Some kind of rusty iron or magnet pieces were fixed on the copper winding behind the CPT. I asked the engineer, why the problem was there? He said firstly I should have got the TV changed on the first day itself as color spots means a defective picture tube. When I said that the Videocon engineer who visited me told me another story, he immediately said sorry and to rectify the mistake, they have changed the CPT. Still, on two positions, the screen was a bit blare, which could not be noticed by either Mr. Sehgal or the engineer. Also, there was a burnt up patch on the top right corner of the cabinet, to which Mr. Sehgal said that the cabinet will be changed. They finally told me that the set was okay and I could take the TV. Seeing my hard earned money down the drain and no respite in sight from Videocon, I decided not to take the TV. I updated Mr. Milind Pandey (Aurangabad), in reply, he called me later and told me that Videocon will give six months extra warranty. Is this the kind of patch-work expected from Toshiba? Videocon does not notice: The TV was faulty from day 1. The problem grew genuine and therefore the TV was in the service centre for over 70 days. The problem was not solved & so they shifted the TV to a better service centre. It is the engineers who are learning and experimenting on my investment. 90% of calls and contacts were made by me. Till Jan. 6, 2005, repairs were conducted on this TV. When it has been accepted that the engineer who first visited on the 3rd day lied to me, why no action is being taken against him? The baseline is: all the Videocon/ Toshiba executives/ engineers are doing their job, at the cost of my job. My intentions during 2005 are clear. I will make sure that my folks DO NOT BUY a Videocon/ Toshiba product in future. I publish Nehru Place directories. I shall, with my lawyer's advice, print advts. saying "before buying a Toshiba TV, talk to me." Similar kind of small advts., I plan to publish in leading newspapers also. I will try to highlight the episode through newspapers in Delhi, UP and Assam. Also, I will send the details to international sites like complaints.com, etc.

At least, I will make sure that a small section of the population gets to know the treatment given to me. After all, I faced the wrath of Videocon's carelessness and the pain has been felt by me. Neeraj Maurya, Jan. 7, 2005
