I bottomed out my Ford Mustang driving into a gas station parking lot and the oil pan cracked and has to be replaced, costing about $1500. I talked to the manager of the service department at the local dealership and he told me that this is a fairly common thing to happen since the oil pan is aluminum and has a seam in it that cracks quite often. Sounds like a defective part to me that should be recalled by Ford and replaced by something that is a little more durable. My car has 3000 miles on it and this is the first time I have bottomed out on anything.
