We purchased a Phillips tv in August 2003. Near the end of our factory warranty, Phillips sent an offer for us to purchase an extended one year service contract, which we did. In the fall of 2004 we noticed the picture beginning to get blurry and shortly thereafter the tv began to randomly shut itself off. In Dec 2004, we contacted Phillips, who told us to contact Service West, Reno, NV, for an authorized servicing of our tv.
They picked up the tv, had it three weeks during which time we got the runaround from both Service West & the Phillips l-800 "customer service" number as to when a part would be available. After being without the tv for three weeks, it was "repaired" and returned to us. The next day the tv began shutting itself off again.
Are we to anticipate another 3 or 4 weeks without our tv? I have seen another complaint identical to ours, posted at your website, so I know this is not an exclusive problem to our tv. We are going to demand a replacement, or better yet, a refund of our purchase price, but I fear that we will have a battle on our hands. Obviously Phillips is not a company with any integrity whatsoever, refusing to stand behind their products or the warranties they offer as part of their product "guarantees." The frustration mounts!!!!

I do know of devices that can be attached to almost any electronic device or circuit board and is then timed to show the item as faulty shortly after its manufactures warranty, thus causing the buyer to call out the engineer (at the owners expence)then the engineer or the company pursuades them to take out further warranty. This way the company keeps the customer. After reading all your mail, and also the problems I've had, It makes me wonder if this kind of thing is still ongoing. I think we should get the TV programme "Watch Dog" involved. I purchased my 50inch tv almost 2yrs to this day, philips have tried to fix it twice and now it keeps shutting off randomly, Philips say it now out of warranty and they cannot do anything about it. They are out and out thieves. I paid £1700 for it. My advice to everyone DO NOT BUY ANY PHILIPS PRODUCTS ESPECIALLY A TV. One of the HDMI ports went out, so we called for warranty repairs. They sent a local company out to pick it up on 6/23. As of 7/16/08, we still don't have it back. The local repairman didn't even order the part until 6/30 (why pick it up if you aren't ready to work on it), and Phillips keeps saying the part is on backorder. We have escalated the claim, but they just keep saying "we should have the part in a few days". I would not buy a Phillips tv again!
