Apple eMac Display

RE: $513.81 to fix the fading display in a 1.5 year old eMac. Just 7 months out of warranty, the display on my eMac started to fade until it went black. I took it to the Apple Store in Sacramento. The display came up, but dimmer than normal with heavy ghosting. The tech quoted me $513.81. They don't repair them; they replace them. A letter to Steve Jobs prompted a response from an individual in Corporate Executive Relations. He said he would investigate and get back to me. I was impressed until he called back in a few days saying there was nothing they could do. Since I had not purchased an Apple Care extended warranty within the first year, I was out of luck. My contention is that, warranty or no warranty, the display should not fail after 1.5 years. I have been a loyal Mac owner for years. This was my fourth Mac and my last. I can buy a PC for the price of

fixing the eMac. All they had to do was allow me to purchase the Apple Care coverage and I would have been happy. They would have gotten a couple of hundred bucks and I would still be praising Apple. I think Apple is concentrating on iPods at the expense of its computer customers. Jeff W
