Frequent "Typographical" & product "picture" errors in Price Chopper Ads Frequent "Typographical" & product "picture" errors in Price Chopper Ads
Shopping at the Cicero Price Chopper Store #199 at Circle Drive in Cicero, NY has become an exercise in scrutinizing their weekly ad. Several times over the past 12 months I have encountered what appears to be deceptive ad practices.
A few examples just from this weeks current ad is the picture and words, "Fuji Quick Snap Flash one-Time Use Camera 27Exp $4.24 w/ advantage card. Along w/ the picture of one (retail $11.99). Attempting to purchase there is a hand written note posted that it is a Typo error and should be the much cheaper Fuji single use camera that retails not much more than the sale price. (See the website page 8). Also, on pg 5 See the ad clearly advertising, "ALL VARIETIES 60-86ct. upright, 145-160ct Flats OR....NEW KLEENEX ANTI-VIRAL FACIAL TISSUES 4/$5 w/ advantage card. Believing ALL VARIETIES and "OR NEW KLEENEX ANTI-VIRAL FACIAL TISSUES" meant just that I took 2 boxes that were 120ct of NEW KLEENEX ANTI-VIRAL FACIAL TISSUES to checkout. Only to see that they were not advantage edge eligible.
Upon questioning the cashier, the patron behind me became obviously agitated and began sighing loudly and rolling her eyes. The cashier took the ad to the front end supervisor who advised her to tell me the ad clearly states upright boxes only? When I advised the cashier to recommend someone place a note on the product to avoid future confusion and to avoid people in line who are less tolerant from having to wait, The patron behind me began yelling at me, "I don't care what you do lady! If you want the dollar for the kleenex I'll give it to you! I don't care what you do lady!!!"
I informed the lady to have a nice day and witnessed the cashier smiling to her and rolling her eyes in agreement with her and both of their rude and childish behavior. I then went to the supervisor to advise maybe she could have a note put on the Kleenex to avoid confusion and she further justified her position stating she would not because the ad clearly states upright only. I advised she could avoid patrons from ugly scenes at the register since people clearly have little tolerance or patience for questions of ads or coupons. The supervisor did not take my request seriously. I see where the cashiers get their guidance and examples from.
I could go on about arriving home only to find my produce smashed when placed against hard objects, pork, chicken and ground beef all being packaged in the same bag allowing for cross contamination of meat juices. And of my recent Friday evening experience when purchasing their $4.88 sheet Pizza special, only to arrive home to an inedible pizza, which was hard as a rock and dry as a bone. Upon closer examination of the wrapper to find an expiration date 3 days since past and a new sticker placed directly on top, extending the expiration date by 3 more days!
Upon taking the wrapper to the store, I was double refunded, but the supervisor merely brushed it off as a wrapper error and not an expiration of food issue. Needless the say the pizza was thrown in the garbage and I was left scrambling to order one by phone to feed my guests. So much for convenience of "Letting them do the cooking!" Need I say more? I will no longer drive past Wegman's to shop at Price Chopper.
