We only had a minimal amount of money in the account because my husband only intended to use the account to cash his check instead of paying their 5 dollar fee for non-account holders. So, we used the card one time to make a small purchase, which did not exceed the balance. A few days later, the bank called saying we had to make a deposit before 5:00 p.m. to avoid an overdraft fee. I argued with the bank because I knew this was impossible. It turned out that because I rented a movie at Blockbuster and they had run a pre-authorization on the card to make sure it was valid (even though I paid cash...you have to have a valid credit or debit on file to rent) the bank put a hold on that money and overdrafted us. Well, I of course went right to the bank and made a deposit to make sure that didn't happen and all was fine....so we thought. Then my husband went to cash his check a few days later and they said we were in the negative 72 dollars! I had made one more purchase after bringing the account positive, so we had used our card a total of 2 times! They tried to tell us the first transaction actually happened second and vice-versa, and therefore charged us an overdraft for both transactions....can we say SCAM! I called the 1-800-USBANKS number and gave them all the dates that everything had processed (according to the automated system and the local bank here), and threatened to expose them to our local news investigators and of course they immediately put all overdraft fees back into our account, of course while still trying to blame it all on blockbuster. My husband tried to close the account and they said it would be a 100 dollar fee...anyone know anything about that? I recommend to anyone thinking about getting an account there to go elsewhere!!! US Bank's stance is that their protection plan reduces the otherwise $33 per instance down to $5 per instance. A little misleading given that you are signing up for overdraft protection to eliminate overdraft fees... I had a $12.99 charge drawn with insufficient funds which resulted in a $19 overdraft fee. From there it took them 6 days to send out a notification. Their stance--they want to "give people time to pay it down before they send anything out". During those 6 days, they charged me $8 per day for having a negative balance which effectively turned a $12.99 into $80. When you add the few days for the mail to actually be delivered, it was more like $105... Other problems too numerous to mention. Also the ATM here sends checks to Cincinnati to process. They sent BACK an endorsed tax return through the U.S. mail, not even certified then put me thru hell for a week straightening this out. I spend more time straightening out the account than working some days. The ACCOUNT BALANCE shows and tells you what your balance is after every debit or charge. While in POSITIVE they took 400.00 in overdraft charges from me and tell me that I was suppose to "know" to click the ACCOUNT BALANCE to READ it because "they" never go by the account balance! OH so now they tell me after they are 400.00 richer? How many millions have they made off of people that take the ACCOUNT BALANCE for what it is! AN ACCOUNT BALANCE!!!! After every charge or debit you have the ACCOUNT BALANCE Geez, the average consumer would feel the account balance is the account balance, right. You have 785.00 and your car payment is 500.00 and you have an ACCOUNT BALANCE OF 285.00 AND IT SHOWS CLEAR AND TRUE? wrong! IF I HAD "known" to CLICK THE ACCOUNT BALANCE I WOULD HAVE SEEN THAT i WAS REALLY IN TH NEGATIVE BY 190.00 Dumb dumb me? Then I ask US BANK WHY did my account show a positive balance???????? They don't have a way of explaining! How many of you have been victims of this scam? In the past with US BANK I would see a negative balance and and KNOW I overdrafted and my fault. No problem, So they changed the online ways it seems, tmake it more deceptive as they must be low on funds and need to fool for people It UNFAIR and FRAUD to show a POSITIVE when a customer is not!! I consider this criminal fraud. So never go by an ONLINE US BANK ACCOUNT BALANCE I advise do not use US BANK at all From: Message Author (click here to email author) Date: Friday, 14-Dec-07 11:32:07 CST Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This |
