BMW Canada. Warranty on my car expired on October 31st, 2004. At the beginning of February 2005 on my BMW 323i, the transmission on my car stopped working suddenly and without warning (specifically, the Reverse gear didn't work and further examination showed problems throughout the transmission). The car had less than 78,000 kilometers on it. A BMW Dealer in Vancouver Canada quoted me $4600 for a new transmission, plus labour and shop materials and apologized. They were very surprised that this would happen. Another BMW dealer was also surprised, but also couldn't do anything, even though the warranty had just expired. I called BMW Corporate (1800 567 2691) and they were equally surprised and apologetic, but wouldn't provide me any assistance. Park Shore BMW gave me references to several transmission repair shops, whom I called, I eventually picked on out. My total bill came $3606.75 CDN. A car that's just over 4 years old and has 80,000 kilometers should NOT have its transmission die within 3 months of the warranty expiring. This is my 2nd BMW and I am in my early-twenties. I'm sure my life-time value to BMW is well over a $100,000 if I remained with the brand.
