Over-charging for van rental by Ace Airport Rent-A-Car, Los Angeles

We are from Singapore and we visited California in Dec last year. We rented a van from Ace Airport Rent-A-Car located at 9142 S. Sepulveda Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90045, telephone 1 310 410 1700 or 1 800 600 7711, email Email User

The agreement was that we will rent the van for 3 weeks from 9 Dec 04 to 30 Dec 04 and drop off the van at San Francisco. The agreed rental fee was USD1499.99 + 200 drop off charges for the whole period. We returned the van on time and did not exceed the allowed mileage either.

However, when we received our credit card statement in January 05, we were shocked to find that our credit card was debited USD1150 on 10 Dec and then USD1269.44 on 31 Dec. That's a total of USD 2419.44, some $700 more than what it should be.

What's worse is that I wrote 3 email addressed to Mr. Kevin Axner (who communicated with me when I booked the van on the internet) to seek an explanation. I received no reply.

I then called them on 4 Feb and spoke to 'Henry' (he's the guy who dealt with us when we picked up the van). He said such matters are handled by another guy named "Mike" who will return my call within 24 hours.

Of course, nobody responded, by phone nor email. And all I am asking for is only an explanation, for now.

I called them again on 10 Feb. This time I got to speak to Mike who said he has to check the accounts and will call me back.

I am still waiting.

I am beginning to wonder if this is a scam. If it really is, then I want to do my part to warn every trusting consumer about this by posting this experience all over the internet.

We had a great vacation when we were in USA until this episode happened. Sure changed my view of LA quite a bit.

Nevertheless, I am still hopeful that one of these guys will respond so we can clear this up.
