I scheduled a reservation for Nov 20-23 at this hotel, through the booking agency Central America.com, not realizing that it would not be possible to make it for my early flight in Managua on the 24th in time. When I registered at the hotel, I inquired about changing my reservation, so as not to be carged for the fourth night, and was told not to worry, as this would not be a problem.

During my three night stay, I endured a really rude manager that would raise his voice to the staff in front of the guests, not only in the lobby, but in the restaurant as well. A power outage knocked out the air conditioning the first night, and then took out the entire water supply of the hotel the entire next day. There was nothing offered to the guests as far as alternatives during this outage. There was no source of any water for drinking anywhere at the hotel.

And after suffering all these inconveniences, I was rudely reminded to make sure to check out promptly at noon the last morning of my stay, even though they were planning on charging me for the room one more night! When I checked out, they informed me that any refund was entirely in the hands of Central America.com. And I'm sure they there was a strong chance they booked the room to another guest that night.

I complained to Central America.com on my return to the states, but they insisted any refund on their part would be dependant on a refund by Hotel Colonial to them, which never happened.

This whole stay was what is known in the states as a total screw-job, and I couldn't feel more cheated. I had much better treatment living out in the village where I built houses my first week in Nicaragua, and they didn't have hardly anything to offer me except human kindness and friendship, which in the end, goes a long way.
