UPS Delivery

August 30, 2005

UPS Delivery I made a purchase via the Internet which was shipped on 08/26/05 via UPS 2-Day Air (which “guarantees delivery by the end of the 2nd business day). According to UPS tracking, the shipment was on-time and scheduled for delivery yesterday (08/29/05). I waited at home all day for UPS to make delivery and, finally, at 10:30 pm last night, called UPS. At that time, the package was still listed as “out for delivery” despite the fact that UPS does not deliver after 7 pm. The person I spoke to, (after first dealing with the uninformative and annoying computerized voice response system), told me she had “no additional information” on my shipment and that it was “probably” still on the truck. I complained that I had wasted an entire day waiting for a package that never arrived despite the scheduled delivery of 08/29/05 and requested UPS call me to update me on the status of my shipment. The UPS representative stated that she would “send a message to the Philadelphia UPS office requesting they call me before 10:30 am since the customer had waited all day for the package”. It is now 11:30 am on 08/30/05, my package is still tracked as “out for delivery” and no call from UPS with a shipment ETA has been forthcoming. I complained to the shipper last night, but this is certainly not their fault. It is the incompetence of UPS and it personnel that is at fault. It is very apparent that UPS’ delivery guarantees are meaningless. As a small business owner, if I treated my customers in this way, I’d be out of business very quickly!
