Home Depot

August 30, 2005

After hurricane season last year, here in North Port, Florida, I decided to purchase from my local Home Depot replacement window that could withstand up to a cat 3 storm - plus one shutter for a window too big for the safety glass. I also allowed the salesman to talk me into allowing HD to install same. As well as to use their one year, no interest, no payment credit plan. This was a big mistake. After months of waiting, and many pleading emails and phone calls from us to the project manager[s], the job was partially completed by my husband and one home depot installer Last May. Almost every window had been mismeasured and required my husband and the installer to cut the framing 'open' to fit the oversized windows [a detail that was not noticed until the old window had been removed thru breaking it up - so no chance of replacing old window]. So now my husband will have to finish reframing each window inside and out. [Should they ever finish the job in our life time]. One new window came with a cracker frame; yet had to be installed again, because the old window had been smashed out before we saw the new window's cracked frame. We are still waiting for the replacement of that window as well as a new screen [it came defective] and hurricane shutters for our master bedroom window.

Please be aware of the following:

I signed a contract for the above service, last January. It is now August 30th. We are almost thru another hurricane season. And the job is yet to be complete. But every month since last February, I receive a bill for the entire amount due, complete with interest and finance charges calculations, should I not be able to pay the entire balance January 2006. We can not get anyone to complete the job. They have quit taking our calls and have switched managers on us as well. I have no gripe with the man that installed our windows. He did his best with windows the wrong size. But my husband had to take two days off from work to help him. I am very upset at the run around we have getting from HD. I'm sure if I paid the bill for these windows in the manner in which this contract has been handled, HD would surely ruin my credit rating. Is there help for this situation? Or am I just slapping at the air like our hurricanes do?

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kim
